r6
I commute a lot and and take the r6 most the time, but I'm getting tired of pulling the mirrors down and then back up as to not hit people's side view mirrors. I've thought about taking them off but the bike looks out of places with nothing there, plus the big thing no mirrors at all. Also I live in a mobile home and park my bike next to my car 1 so it doesn't get rained on and 2 it'd be a little harder to steal, but its a juggling act keeping them from hitting the car or the house, or I have to pull them in and it's just a big pain all together. So seeing as I don't like big holes/ empty, somethings missing look I saw something and thought it wasn't half bad. Now I've read some reviews on the first one and there wasn't much but these are said to be a lot better placed and the guy I saw them on said he liked them. They would be the pig spotter 2.... any suggestions. sorry was going to just put a picture but I locked myself out of my photobucket right now. i'd get the black not that shiny metalic color just wanted some opinions i've seen some pix from the back and the mirror does lower visability, not as bad as the first ones but it's better then having none.

Pig spotters are unusable.

You probably haven't any idea, but the R6 and it's stock mirrors are pretty damn good how they are. It's really not that big a deal pulling them in once in a while.

You want mirrors that you can use.

I understand the stock ones are pretty good, but I ride so much it's more of a daily thing. If it's not raining when I leave the house or I'm going to the grocery store I take the bike. To give you an idea how much I ride and I just think putting the mirror down shouldn't be what I'm paying attention to while splitting lanes.

You might want to consider that if you are hitting mirrors you are probably riding a bit closer to other vehicles than may be safe. Just an idea. I am sure your lane splitting skills make Rossi look like a club racer, but when I learned to ride they taught us that hitting other vehicles was a sign of bad riding.

I guess I need to be more specific, as to not get these comments. The problem is when splitting lanes at lights more then on the freeway, I don't hit them but have come close,
in some cases if I didn't fold mirrors I would. This has nothing to do with the skill of a rider more to the limit of space. Cars are not the problem s their mirrors are too low , the issue is with the small
Trucks and suv's as their mirror line up pretty well with mine. Now the mirrors on these vehicles stick out about 6 to 8 inches more then the rest of the vehicle. When taking that and the extra almost 2inches
The bike mirrors stick out, your looking at 8inches and more seeing as some truck mirrors stick out over a foot. Now when you have them next to each other at a light,
That's almost 2 feet of room (almost 1 per side.) that you've lost due to the mirrors. So with this extra room it would make the fit between cars, a lot more comfortable. Also like I said before it would make parking between my house and car a better fit.
With out having to tuck them in and out all the time. So either the mirrors are coming off or the pig spotter 2 are gonna replace them .I'm just trying to figure out if the spotters are worth it or to go mirror less

get a motard!

seriosuly thoguh, i would leave the mirros stock and not fold em in. if you splitting through traffic and cant get through a certain area cause of your mirros, tough, you cant split em all. maybe fold em before you start your split.
this may not be what you wanna hear.

Not really lol, but thanx for input without insult. Like I said its more of a pain getting in and out at home, and I know you can't split em all. But last year I drove 17k almost on the bike. So its a daily thing that's become like an itch that you can scratch , I turn my head to change lanes, and really only use the mirrors to look for cops and some traffic monitoring. I'm usually passing cars not them passing me so .

well when i lane share i contantly check my mirrors to see if another rider is waiting behind me, i use my mirrors before turning my head to change lanes and then back again as needed to make sure the space i need to move into is still there, i use em a lot along wiht turning my head.
i got some shitty little bar end mirros on my f3 and i hate em. they look cool sure but they are impractical as all hell and would never put them on a bike i sue all the time. my 919 and drz i actually got bigger wider mirros for.
if your worried about your bike getting stolen get a bigass chain and chain your bike to your trailer hitch, that way if they even start to mess wit it youll hear the ratteling of the chain and hitch.

good luck man, and 17k a year is onyl a lot to some. others will put 20k on in half that.
how long have you been riding?

Going on two years now, love riding don't know many others though, I've been trying to do a group ride but my schedule never works. I've read looking behind for other riders is no issue
. I've just gotten sick of the mirrors and its a full mobile home as in looks like a house there's no tow hitch. And I have an overhangs that fits 3 car so its under that to protect from rain and thiefs.

ah a manufactured home.
how old are you? early 20s?
well im sure you can figure somehting out that will improve things withotu having to remove your mirrors. if your not using them your not doing it right.

keep on riding man.

In other words, we're not telling you what you want to hear...

I've been riding for years and oem mirror clearance has rarely, if ever, been an issue.

25 years on the street..... never had an issue with OEM mirrors lane sharing. As others have suggested..... you might be trying to get into spaces you dont need to be. If there isnt room for you, there isnt room for you to share. Some very experienced guys are giving you good advice.

Yeah early 20's, I'm 23. Well maybe some of you don't need to, not sure what kind of bike you guys have. For example yesterday splitting lanes at a light,
The front cars was a ford f-250 a low one with the large side mirrors, and a dodge caravan. Both lined up next to each other and close enough that with my mirrors out,
I would have hit their with mine, some will say then I shouldn't be splitting but there's enough room for the bike so I'm going to. I guess I was lookin to see if anyone had experience,
With those mirrors because like I said they're coming off its a matter of no mirrors or those, and like I said its a pain with the mires parking the bike at night.

Thank you for the advice. Like I was saying its more at lights so these car are stopped and there's room without the mirrors, of a foot on each side plenty of room.
As well as it being a pain parking the bike at night.

You're doing it wrong, it being dark makes no difference to width.

If you look at how much room your knees (while in riding position) and your legs spread out (when parking the bike) you will realize the mirrors are not far out

I think your missing the design of a car, the mirrors on a car stick out more then anything else and a good amount at that. The only on the bike that is at that height is the mirrors. I don't know about you but my knees don't sit as high as my mirrors.
And my handlebars stick out more then my knee. Its not so much that the mirrors are so far out on the bike, its that there the only thing that stick out that far at that height. Like I said this is more with suv's, trucks, and vans as they are wider then cars and the mirrors stick out more.
Again you'll probably say then I shouln't be trying to get through then but with the mirrors folded I make it no problem so there's room. And like I said I was more looking for feedback on those mirrors because the oem ones are coming off.

Lol ok I got your point like I said u believe that I shouldn't be trying to fit into these spaces, thank you for ur advice but I feel that at low speeds around a foot on each side is plenty of room. I get your point though you don't think so thank you for your opinon.
