What does "affording" something mean to you?

If I were to say that I couldn't afford something, it would mean that it doesn't fit in my personal fiscal policy that takes into account my current and future projected finances.

can’t really respond to this without a preface - would say (personally speaking) it depends on where you are in your life. for me, early days - did i have the cash? (had no credit at that point). a bit later (when i had credit), could i make the payments. a bit further on - irrespective of whether i had the cash or credit, how much did i want it (resistible or irresistible). and then after some long period of time, i got control of my i impulsive nature, and the question became - how much are you willing to spend for what you want v. what you need. am still sorting that out - but am mostly moving in the direction of what i need - and for that - am willing to pay to play.

WF lettuce. Oh yeah. Vons has stepped up their game lately too. And WF has a WALL of kombucha. So a few things occasionally.

$300 for one brown bag of mundane groceries is silly though.

Pretty shiny things.
I haven't shopped there since last Tgiving. I was searching for some kick ass stuffing and found it there.

You live in Menlo park and charge your step kids 500 for a rental home???
Give them a Life Lesson and raise the rent to $2000. And that's a bargan!:laughing

Bro-

You are preaching to the choir. I tell my Wife that ALL the time. That is the easiest way to piss her off. I tell her that she is doing them a disservice by not teaching them the true cost of being an adult. Fortunately, we keep our finances separate, so she is the one paying for them, but it still bugs me.

For a lot of people it means do I have room on my credit card

I remember those days. Paying down a CC was like a savings account, because I had space under the limit I could use for fun!

Thank God those days are past. But I know a few who live in CC hell.:-(

As an interesting side note, bankers in the US refer to those who pay their credit cards monthly as deadbeats. In the UK, it's called "abusing" the system.:)

Irony.
