Im looking to buy a new helmet within the next month, something pretty quiet and an upgrade from my hjc cl-14. Im just looking for your guys input as to what you guys like. (brand, model)

Thanks

Chris

I just bought an Aria corsair (Blk solid) for $380.00 on e-bay. It's loud when all 500 gizillion vents are open but otherwise it's as quite as any light helmet can be.

I have the Arai RX-7rr Corsair, replica...it is pretty nice! A little expensive, but I love it!

it largely depends. First and foremost make sure it fits you perfecly, if not damn near perfect. If your going to spend the money, spend it right.

With that being said, I found my Shoe RF1000 ultra-bitching'. It fits a round head like mine perfectly. Its light, has great peripheral vision, replaceble and washable cheekpads, good ventilation and a quick change shield.

I would have got the X11 which is super ultra bitchin' being lighter and all, but didnt have the $$ at the time.

Scorpion make really nice lower priced models as well, very much comprable to the Shoei rf1000

Exactly as what Karbon says. Find the helmet manufacturer that fits your head best. You may have a Shoei head or an Arai head. You won't know til you try on a billion helmets.

Style and paint job lists pretty low on my priority list when it comes to choosing helmets. Good luck!

Arai Quantum is more economical than a Corsair

Scorpion or SparX if you're low on money but still want a good helmet.

Arai and Suomy. Quatum2's are nice but RX7 Corsaisrs are lighter and have better ventalation.

you can't really put a price on protecting your head..
i'd go with arai or shoei
but most importantly you have to try them on. Different brand and model fit differently. for my head, arai was a better fit, i almost bought shoei too. good thing my friend told me to try out arai :)

true. but to be fair, generally any full faced helmet that passed d.o.t and/or snell standards will protect you equally.

the extra dough is for comfort and all the bells and wistles.

There are several stores around that have good selection of helmets to try on. Also, the Aria head vs Shoei head isn't necessarily true as it differs per model.

I know CycleGear in San Jose, and Motostrano in RWC have a large selection to try on.

Suomys are awesome in every way possible, EXCEPT that they are pretty loud because they are race helmets. Still, if you don't mind the noise or don't mind wearing earplugs, they are IMO, one of the best brands of helmet on the market.

I've got a Shark RSI and love it. But I went to a store and tried on a bunch of helmets for like 3 hours, and walked around in my Shark helmet for like 20-25 minutes to get a a better feel for it.

I was a bit skeptical about Suomy until I started wearing a Spec-1R. The graphics, fit, and finish are great. Unlike any other helmet I've used, the ventilation actually works! I get a nice cool breeze across the top of my head, yet not enough wind in my face to dry out my contact lenses. Love the light weight, too. Downsides? It's just as noisy as my old Arai Quantum/f and the shield-changing system allegedly sucks ass. The Suomy's shield seems to be infinitely more scratch-resistant than the last Arai shield I used, so luckily I haven't had to change the shield out.

Buy what fits first and foremost. It needs to fit your head and your wallet. These two criterion are not mutually exclusive. If you want quiet, that may drive the price up if you adhere to the "fit your head" rule. I say put in earplugs and buy the nicest (from an upgrade standpoint) helmet that fits and you can afford.

I love my suomy, but gawd damn its loud. Put in plugs and the world is better.

Fit is one factor you can verify in the store, along with price. As far as noise goes you would have to test ride and few stores alow that. The last helmet I bought from Cycle Gear (S.F. store) I was able to get a promise from the manager that if I didn't like it I could exchange it in a few days for another of equal or higher price. This allowed for noise evaluation as well as verifying that the fit was indeed satisfactory.

One that fits right. At that point it doesn't matter what kind - the best helmet, if it doesn't fit you, is more dangerous than none at all.

Having said that, I love my Pyrotect, but that's an automotive helmet, not a motorcycle one (different padding), but for a bike Helmet, I found I really like the Arai for everything but fog control on the visor (every one I've had sucks bananas, which, if you've seen a helmet suck a banana, is a show in itself!), but for such things there is anti-fog.

But it is the first FF helmet I could actually wear in the summer (If I wore a FF helmet in the summer) without broiling in the thing. Sure, it was 'spensive, but man, I do love my baby (which, for me, says an awful lot). Plus it came in this low-luster (almost flat) pewter color I really like - I *hate* plasticky-shiny helmets.
