I have noticed a very high increase in chp and sheriffs vehicles on the road ways. Noticed that is not just a higher presence but they are also pulling over a lot more cars. It really does appear to me that it is somewhat revenue based, but I would like to maybe hear some inside info on this. Thanks.

Maybe it's just where you are. Even if you wanted to think it was revenue based, that doesn't make sense. It assumes the Sheriffs and CHP, when not in patrol cars, simply sit in their stations all day (unlikely). Otherwise, you're assuming MORE Sheriffs and CHP have been hired, and there's no way they could issue as many tickets as it costs to justify the larger police force and their salaries.

I know they upped CHP presence around my local backroads a few months back. They pulled some guys from San Jose, and that's almost two hours away from me. But that was a temporary increase in enforcement.

The Deputies get a toaster and CHP gets a plasma screen for who writes the most tickets this month. :facepalm

My understanding is that the CHP gets no revenue from the tickets they write. However, our cities and counties are so poor at controlling their spending that they load tons of fees onto almost every ticket. That's
why so many politicians and civic leaders push for more enforcement. More
enforcement means tons more revenue for them.
I say we incent drivers to drive better by giving them 30 minute immediate
time outs instead of most tickets. No one wants to be delayed like that
and I think people would drive more carefully. We'll see how long it takes for these cities and counties to learn how to operate within their tax based budgets, or watch them crumble if they cannot.

Just for the fun of it........

Please explain to me how you process that seeing more officers on the road making more stops means its revenue based enforcement.

Threadack; you guys have of the new cars with the new farkled lightbars? They brighter or what? I saw one down around Gilroy- looked like three of the old cars it was so farkled and new.

Hawaii? :rofl

We're so broke I won a trip to Fresno. :thumbup

"We" who? The state? CHP is the state's little princess...you don't run out of money! Here's a new charge card, sweetie. :twofinger

Must have moved on to your area. A couple weeks ago there was BIG presence by CHP all over 17 where I live. I just figured it was some kind of task force that concentrated one area at a time. Back to the fairly normal moderately heavy presence now. I would assume that's what's going on in your area now. Bet it dies off soon.

I like it when they do this because 17 is full of idiots that can't drive well at all. The CHP do tend to hang out in certain spots and this gives a nice change up to catch the smarter idiots that learn where they are. Don't get me wrong: HWY 17 is a great road that can be taken at quite a high rate of speed and is fun. It's just that some of these folks do it 2" off your bumper and can't signal, use their mirrors or change lanes worth a damn. Looks like it's going to rain soon too. Here we go again.....

Offices are finally getting LED light bars as of a couple weeks ago. Very bright
