V-twin (60, 65 deg)
V4

don't like I4 but damn they get the job done!

Did you mean to say I have sexy ears?

No... but you were kind enough to give me the opportunity for a ride so amazing I damn near needed a cigarette after I got off the bike... :teeth

This. An inline-4 is the absolute sexiest sound EVAR. V-twins and all that don't do a damn thing for me. But I hear an inline-4 in the distance, and I stop mid-conversation to listen for a moment... is it a 6? A liter? Stock exhaust? GOD I love them... :drool

Absolute sex for my ears!! :teeth

Wow.

I always thought that no one actually liked the sound of an inline 4. I always thought it was just something us sport/Jap bike fans dealt with because it was "better" in terms of performance. I guess I'm wrong.

I like the sound of a V twin. Singles have an obnoxiousness to them that's charming (especially old 2 stroke scooter engines!). Even triples have a certain odd charm. But I4's? Soundwise, it's just an annoying whine to my ears.

There are plenty of us... but some might've been afraid of being accused to be too mainstream or not have a good taste, etc. :party

Anyway, there's something so cool (sexy to some) about the sound of an I4 in a perfect sync revving around 12K, 13K, 14K, or higher. I commute on my bike and I hit it at least once every other day. :)

v twins, no doubt...love the tractability in how the power pulses are delivered, love the simplicity..love the sound..specially the 'L twin' 270 degree crank..music.

V-twins are great, as long as they don't have valves.

Awesome rush of power and the configuration leaves plenty of space for ease of maintenance.

Also missing, the V8 "girl's bike" (aka Boss Hoss)

And, of course, the CBX based V12......

The V 12 CBX may be available. From what I understand the builder is Andreas in south orange county. The stock crank was used and each rod was cut in half so 2 rods would fit on each journal.

If you ever get lucky enough to sample an RC30 or RC45... the V4 bug will bite your ass for life...

So far, the new r1 crossplane. Nothing quite like it. Not as smooth as a V4 but thats whats cool about it. The induction noise has a pretty unique drone to it. On idle, the engine has a lope and an oddball cadence. When you take off, you notice a disproportional amount of pull (compared to other i4) relative to how quickly you twist the trottle.

:wtf How do you do that? I'm going to have to go out in the garage and look at those rods because from my faulty memory, I cannot imagine how you cut them in half. It's a cool idea even if it would have me constantly afraid of grenading the thing.

I agree. That and a triple with a nice can are just beautiful sounding and the compromise between revs and torque on both is tidy.

No, because there are characteristics inherent to a boxer twin that are different from a v-twin.

I agree with you, but I wonder when a twin starts becoming a boxer? After all, what is the difference between a 175 degree V-twin, and a flat twin? Conversely, what is the difference between a 5 degree V-twin and a parallel twin? as a the V closes or widens, does it give up some characteristics and take on others that make it more like one engine than the other?

Something about a triple. One of my MSF instructors had a big Laverda. That thing sounded like a muscle car missing a stroke. VERY NICE!

THIS

I love the linear power of my inline 4 litre bike, but the triple has the torque that I like about a twin, and yet the smooth predictable pull I like about the inline 4...and much more grunt down low. The twin is brutish at low rpms and has too much "character" for my liking.

and that triple sound...

yea, my vote goes inline triple

No fav. All that make me smile are worth having.

Not the :teeth is is the :teeth

Ok..twin.

I've only ridden a parallel twin and a v twin. The v twin is like :leghump
