So what say you?

I love me some AMAZING burger but have been striking out recently - what are your recommendations?

My fav/best burger place was the San Benito House "you call it" burger in Half Moon Bay. Nice perfect whole in the wall that served 1/3# Angus patties with homemade bun from the sandwhich shop next door and allowed full customization. My heart attack of choice was: Normal Cheeseburger (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) plus bacon, sprouts, jalapeno, and easy over egg. AMAZERING

HELP me find something in San Jose and don't recommend a chain! (Counter in Santana row sucks imho!)

There was that little diner in Willow Glen that was on Diners Drive Ins, and Dives. I went there after they were on the show and the burger I had was fantastic...

It's not in San Jose, but Ricky Bobby (chefs formerly of the Broken Record) is pretty damn outstanding...also Cafe Zazo in SF...I'll have to ask around but I'll find you something in SJ.

Kirk's Steakburgers in Campbell is decent. Haven't been there in a while. 5 guys, despite being a chain, is better.

I thought it was Liquid Bread VB in Campbell, but the second time I had it it was messed up. I hope they corrected the problem. It was very unique.

The beer selection is amazing, as the name implies.

i know this isn't cool to say, but every once in a while i get a craving for a big mac, then when i eat one, i get disappointed.

I like Juicy Burger myself! Try it out braddah! Get one on Blossom Hill and one on N. First St.

Even though it's a chain and it should be the same at each one, they all seem to be a bit different. And if the Juicy Burger on Bascom Ave. is still there...that was is the best one.

I know it's not SJ, but there's a Umami burger in SF now. A bit pricey, but they have amazing burgers. Also, as Pete pointed out, you can't go wrong with RickyBobby's (they add chopped bacon IN the patty) :drool

I'll provide counterpoint: The Drive Inn and Diner, on top of 17, with a million dollar view from their back deck. Worst burger I've ever had in my life. Ever. It was worse than company bbq party bad. Frozen patty from costco, two pieces of dry bread, and a handful of Lay's potato chips. Stunningly bad. It's like somebody rich is trying to win a bet that they can't possibly make a restaurant in such an amazing location fail.

I feel your pain. Not many good burgers around here.

Best I've found in Southbay is California Cafe in Los Gatos.

ANGUS BURGER $13.00 blue cheese sauce, balsamic caramelized onions, smoked bacon.

That actually sounds good... I love bleu cheese on a burger... :drool

I always thought Alice's had pretty good burgers. And the garlic fries are great!

Never thought of a few places on this list but def want to check them out!

excited to gain a few pounds on my cheat day :teeth

+1

This burger is so good that you don't need blue cheese or a bunch of other junk on it. There is a reason that there is literally a line out the door at lunch time every day.

I think St Johns burgers are average. Same as you get from most bar/grills. The lines are long because its close to tech companies and because they have beer. A pitcher of beer always makes burgers taste better.

Their burgers are the same quality as the Dutch Goose in Menlo Park. Oasis bar/grill on El Camino. First and Main Sports Lounge in Los Altos. Alpine Inn Bar(Zotts) on Alpine RD. All OK burgers, but not great.
