What to use to hold the front brake lever while transporting a moto?

+1 on the Velcro strap. I've used bandanas or similar when working on bikes on a lift or stand. Whatever's handy.

I've always taken the loose end of the right side tie-strap and wrapped it around the grip/brake lever when transporting bikes.
Almost every time I tell myself it's unnecessary, but I still do it.

I used to tie my bikes down by the front brake caliper mounts. The suspension wasn't compressed at all and you could get unbelievable tension with a conventional strap just by rocking the bike to the side as you cinch it down. The bikes were rock solid once secured that way.
That's a good idea. I will look at different strap down positions.

<<< Has never ever applied brakes or put a bike in gear while it was tied down.

Also has never ever had a bike come loose.

<----- same here

Never seen one for sport bikes but I had a fork brace for my supermoto, allowed me to snug bike up without keeping forks compressed. The Velcro sounds like your best choice.

the system i got setup, i cant use a front wheel chock. totally not in the cards. i still tie the bike down towards the front and rear, so it 'cant' move, but it still inevitably does a bit, back and forth, and it will work its way a bit sidewayz after a long bumpy trip. putting it in gear is an OK idea, but it still is gonna have a bit of forward and back slop.

My guess is that if your rig is bouncing enough that the bike is moving around when strapped, that holding the front brake won't solve the problem. The front tire will just end up skidding as you go over bumps. It may end up moving a little less, but will probably still dance around.

Doesn't hurt to try the velcro strap, but I think if you want something secure for the long term it will have to be a chock of some kind...

We would probably be more effective in finding a solution if you would...

..UPDATE THE BUS BUILD THREAD!!

Dammit Charlie, you're slackin'! :x

Use less tension on the rear. It should only maintain side hop if you are going to use them. The fronts should pull the wheel into the truck bed wall or sport chock.

There's a tool for this, KTM and Brammo both make them.

best post in the thread so far.... i will be purchasing a couple of these

2nd best post was someone suggesting tieing it down by the front brake calipers. everyone else seems to be convinced the problem doesnt exist :rolleyes :laughing
