What will it take to convince you of climate change?

I don't know dude...your attitude is what makes liberals so irritating to most Americans. I try to be more subtle.

And you obviously haven't looked through my body of work. I've written a lot about small motorcycles, motorcycles as commute vehicles, electric motorcycles, etc. If I'm not revolutionary enough for you, you should start your own eco-warrior motorcycle site.

elmer isnt a typical liberal minded guy. While I give him credit for sticking to his ideals in a hostile forum, he certainly doesnt represent the typical left leaning person....hes very much a marxist in the true sense of the word(not that im saying that is bad...or good)

May be true, but what happens is anybody right of center just lumps everybody to the left of them in the same category...and I am NOT in that category. Marx was a loser, a spoiled rich kid and an anti-semite. His ideas (like Lysander's) were half-baked and just don't stand up to modern analysis. Followers of his philosophy get as much of my respect as followers of Glen Beck.

Apologize for my vagueness. Humans caused global warming. Yes, botany and humans caused global warming, climate change, and the Ice Ages. Anything else o_0 ?

What is human caused? Botany cource? Climate change? "Global warming"?
What about an Ice Age? Was it cause by humans too?

If "global warming" caused by human activity, what caused an Ice Age?

If "global warming" caused by human activity, what caused an Ice Age?

So you're implying they're mutually exclusive? That because climate changes can occur naturally, it couldn't be caused also be caused by human activity?

Easy. God used a slight shot and a big ass rock. That big ass rock slammed into Earth and altered its course around the Sun.

Oh My Aching Ass. There have been lots of ice ages, of wildly different degrees of spread across the planet.

They have advanced and retreated, because of different reasons.

The biggest run-away ice age, that covered the entire planet, was caused by plate tectonics that altered the course of the Ocean current that carries the Warm equator water to the cold North and South regions.

And it was Vocanic (Massive Vocanic) eruptions that changed the atmosphere, to bring us (the planet) out of that Snowball Earth situation.

Science has examined this planet, and discovered it's history...It isn't make up a scenerio..and tell a made up story.

What actually happened...left a record of it.

Then OP’s question is misleading – climate change happens, that is a scientific fact. The “B” question is the real problem: does humanity impact this process? I don’t know… I suspect we have not been studying the problem long enough to know for certain.

But I do know that in the history of humanity – increased culture and prosperity has coincided with increased global temperatures. And the inverse has also been true – a decrease in the global temperature has lead to hard/difficult times for humanity.

Humans are not a "cause" per say but we are a "catalyst", just don't know if we are strong or weak catalyst!

Since the OP gives no opinion on this thread, neither will I. But, as an observation:

Folks that really, really foam at the mouth about "climate change" and whatnot, who are the most vocal, seem to have no scientific knowledge of it at all. They just believe what the news says. Or what they saw hypocritical giant ass house owning/suv driving/resource gobbling Al Gore say in some movie.

To express doubt in these theories, you will be labeled some kind of idiot. Some kind of denier. By people who don't know anything at all about the science. Not talking about Gabe here as he has no opinion, and if he did I am positive it would be based on solid scientific fact.

In hindsight, I do have an opion:

I think some people are making a lot of money. They will make more. Much, much more. "Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss".

There's your answer RRR70. And thanks for answering it.

From personal experience: a friend of the family is a chemical executive. He was invited to Copenhagen. The warm up (ba-dum) talked that preceded it were all about diminishing resources, recycling, resource exploration and sustainable business practice. I couldn;t tell if that meant "greening" for the consumer market or for the environment. Seems to me like "greenwashing" writ large is going on, but they found a way to "improve" technologies to "save the planet" balanced on consumers budgets. See CFLs and mercury. See ethanol/MTBE. Al Gore's corruption has been legendary for decades, but our collective memory aint too great, and some of us are too young to remember.

Climate changes in the past happen without human involvement. Now climate changes again and it's our fault?

fallacious reasoning.

species went extinct before humans were around, so that means humans haven't ever caused extinction(we have, prolifically and across our entire existence)

ive always hated this stupid ass talking point because even a small child could find the holes in the reasoning. the only people who cant see through it are the people who dont want to...

I often wonder if the peoples of easter island squabbled over the effects on their economy if they stopped cutting trees down when there was like still 50 trees left

I think he gave an answer to one question and a possible indication of his answer to the other.

But the thread isn't about that. It's about what would make you believe it. My theory is nothing short of Ronald Reagan emerging from his grave and telling you it's real and caused by humans.

What's the prize for "winning" the argument?

Personally I don't have an educated opinion, (surprise), so I am still in my confused state. Enjoying the conversation that all the experts here are having, though.

We will never know, if there was a squabble...but we do know for sure...no one said..."We need to build some boats" Either for fishing, or setting out to see if we can find other land.

Their belief system, failed them...they exhausted their resources, couldn't feed themselves or escape. The strong (groups or gangs) robbed and killed the weak, till they killed each other (cannibalism) till there was no more.
