To me, the Hawk's single sided swingarm, aluminum twin spar frame, and v-twin motor make a package that is far more sexy than anything the new Ninjette can offer. While it has some sleek new fairings and a few nice refinements, the Ninjette's the flexy steel backbone frame and "farty sounding" parallel twin motor just don't compare.

But that's just me. It took some time for me to appreciate the naked / streetfighter look, and the new Ninjette does look pretty slick. All depends on what you're looking for, right?

Get a Busa.

I mean, what do you really want Ree? The Hawk works just fine as is, I imagine, so just ride it for a while.

I'm with stupid up there. You're bike is just fine, just ride it and enjoy it and learn from it. Save your duckets so that when you are ready for a new bike you can get just the bike you want.

I have a better idea: Keep the Hawk as is AND get a new Kawa 250. You could always work on the Hawk later. :)

I have to say, that was my first thought too.

While the new 250 is nice, and I'd love to have one myself, I think you'd miss the torque of the Hawk unless you never get out of town. Not to mention the fact that the Hawk IS a bit of a cult bike, and a motor and frame that I've always liked. :thumbup

hawk is def more unique. as long as its in good shape and you're still learning to ride, probably best to just stick with it. going with the 250 wouldnt be a bad decision though, so either way you well off

I second the opinion of someone up there^^ who said to think about a ninja 650R.

I think that if you like the Hawk, you should move to an SV650 NOT a Ninja two fiddy. The SV is pretty similar to your Hawk in lot's of area's.

but kawasaki markets the 650r towards girls. :twofinger

How long are you willing to go without riding?Your bike will be down for a while during the rebuild.Figure at least twice the time and money as you are thinking of from the start.Projects are fun but if it's your only bike, don't do it.The weather is only getting better.I would personally go with a bigger bike than the 250.Aren't you Toe's girlfriend?Just take his GSXR750 from him when he gets it:ride.

if its gonna look anything like this.....DO IT!

Don't just sit on a 250 - ride one. Then make your decision. The new technology is so much better in chassis, geometry, tire size, and swingarm design that you can't catch up from a 10 year old bike.

So...
Here is the scenario....

I have an 89 Honda HawkGT with a lot of miles but it still runs no problem and is in great shape!
I was thinking of taking it apart (starting tomorrow) and get the following done:

CBR600RR front end
Custom Leo Vince Carbon exhaust or maybe an R6 exhaust (its smaller)
Monster seat and tail
Buell dual headlights or a GSXR headlight
VFR rear wheel or possibly a triumph speed triple wheel
Powder coat the frame, sub frame, and swingarm flat black
Paint the gas tank and fairings white with a matte black stripe down the side
Also there will be some part replacements and odds and ends to be replaced most likely

OR

The other option would be....
I can sell the Hawk, use that money i was gonna spend for the upgrades, and buy a NEW 08 NINJA TWO FEEF-TEE
Im no longer starting tomorrow to think it over a bit and go sit on some KAWI's....

I have some thinkin to do in the bike department, what do ya think?

I'd do the Fork mod and exhaust. Skip the bling and buy the ninja 250. you can never have enough bikes.

those are some hefty mods there Ree... i say do it.. because these bikes are getting more scarce and collectible. i just got my vfr rear wheel and an extra spindle. i just have to wait till my tires go bye bye to install it.... and at the pace i ride, it may take a couple years. HA.. but i say no to monster rear and yes to hiperform. it give more options on which rear cowl to use. but shit... the mods you want to do sound supersweeeeet. i just cant wait till i can kick my hawk down to my fiance.

KEEP THE HAWK!!!

^ Biased opinion of course :teeth

Every bike I look at now I compare to my Hawk. Now I will not even consider a bike unless there is a single sided swing arm... It's kinda sad actually and very superficial, but I just can't help it
