Hello,

Can anyone give me any good/low cost shops where I can get my wheels repaired? I hit a pothole and bent both of my wheels, anything around SF would be great.

Thanks,
Jesus

Nothing in the city. I'd highly recommend sending them to Dr. John's in Anaheim

Second choice would be The Frame Man in Sacramento, although they are kinda fussy about types of payments they will and will not accept.

Both of these shops do good work and are highly recommended, although they are (from my experience) very different in how the treat customers....

Many years ago I bought a sport bike that had a badly damaged frame. The frame was bent almost to the point of the tubes being buckled, but not quite. I made an appointment for Dr John's to do the repair. When I dropped off the bike they weren't sure if they could straighten it or not. They told me to go grab some lunch and come back and watch the process. So I sat there in the shop for about two hours watching every step of the repair process. In the end the frame came out nice and I got to see how they did it.

Fast forward a few years and I'm now living in SF. The bike you see in my avatar has a custom built frame. Walt, the owner of The Frame Man shop offered to measure the frame for me to see if it was constructed straight. I dropped off the frame and came back a month later (he offered to check it for free, so I wasn't in a hurry). When I came back he told me that part of the frame wasn't straight and because it was made that way it couldn't be straightened. The odd thing was, he refused to tell me where the imperfection was. All the work they do is done behind closed doors and no customer is ever allowed to enter the back shop or see how they do things. I later discovered where my frame was off and was able to correct the error. It was a very strange experience. That said, he does good work, just very secretive about it.

thats my $0.02

Gerry does great work at very reasonable prices. You can ship them to him or drop them off, go have lunch and pick them up a couple of hours later
He's in Woodland.

keep in mind that the damaged area of the wheel needs to be heated to straighten it. Annealing is necessary for the repair, but leaves the wheel soft and in my experience, you will bend the wheel in the same spot shortly after the "repair".....nobody tempers the wheels after their repair/straightening

best bet is to buy straight used wheel

THIS....had my bike up there earlier this year, Gerry is da bomb, and he fixed/replaced/refabricated the broken spool holder on my swingarm while I was there. Great work, and he KNOWS bikes, so not only can he fix things like wheels, frames, etc, he'll probably have some ideas/suggestions on set up changes and other little things you can do to make your ride that much better!

+1 for Gerry. I bent my rear wheel on my CBR and made it look brand new. Word of caution, it's nearing the heart of AFM season he is a little busy right now but well worth the wait.

Gerry at GP Frame and Wheel. He did more than fix my rims after a crash. He developed tools and measuring devices for overall bike alignment and chassis geometry. If your serious about your bike I suggest taking the whole thing to him. Seriously. He'll explain the why and whats to you for free because he likes what he does. It will put your mind to rest about the rims and chassis so you can focus elsewhere.
