I know that there are stores where they look at the way you run and recommend a pair of shoes that suit your running style.

Any stores in South Bay you can recommend?

Thanks.

There is ZombieRunner in Palo Alto. Cool people, at least a couple years ago when I went there last. I switched to minimalist shoes after that, though.

.

Road Runner has that video thingie where they'll video your feet as you run, the tell you what type of stride you have.

Sports Authority on El Camino in Sunnyvale but mostly Amazon. I only wear New Balance shoes and Amazon has a great selection. We need to do a saturday lunch and ride to catch up, its been awhile.

I went to road runner in berkeley. They video you running on the treadmill, made me footbeds for the shoes and I have been really happy with them. It was a bit pricey though.

Amazon.

The markup at the running shoe stores hurts my wallet.

I'm on my 4th pair of Skechers Go Run shoes. I love them but no way could they be used for trails.

Are minimalist shoes good for trail running?

They can be. I actually think they're better in some ways, you tend to shorten stride on trails. But it depends on your gait, and the trail you're running. If you're a long-striding heel striker you're not gonna enjoy it much. And on a super-rocky trail you could be hurting. Personally I go with light padding, a low heel drop, and a flexible upper for trails, and use them for running and hiking. And more minimalist for street.

FWIW, I had a really good experience with Forward Motion in Danville.

Sports Basement in Sunnyvale or Campbell
Road Runner in Campbell
Running Revolution in Campbell

....if I need them right away.

Online for $$ savings.

For minimalist running.....slowly acclimate yourself to that style of running - short distances at first to build up and strengthen the lower legs/calves.....otherwise, you expose yourself to injury. "No pain, no gain" does not apply in this case.

Didn't recall if there was a Sports Basement down there or I would've said they same as they have good prices.

I'm an official Sports Basement whore because it's located across the street from my local dog park, after dog playtime I'll stop in "just to look around" and oops, did I just buy more athletic shoes? :mad :p

I dont buy from this site BUT it allows you to put in shoes you currently wear and it tells you the size in other brands if they will fit loose, tight, just right. Really good tool for buying shoes online and not having to deal with shipping back for returns.
