Where do I buy a suit in EssEff?

Macy's stuff is low quality unless it is a major brand like CK.....the rest of their stuff is mostly private-label junk with made-up Italian names

Might wanna read up....Seems they make lower-quality stuff specifically for the Rack.....You have to check the tag carefully to see if it's really something that came from the regular store

This may be true but much of what is there is overstock and returns from Nordstroms. However, not all Nordstrom Racks are the same. The one in SF gets WAY better stuff than the one in Colma for example. I shop at the one in SF. I stopped in the Colma one once and it really wasn't any different than a TJ Ross.

The Sf store gets mostly the good stuff though.

I just bought a new suit from the Banana Republic factory store. It was the first suit I was able to buy that I did not need to get tailored and fit me awesome right off the rack.

Now, it was from the factory store, so it was discounted a lot more than what you'd be able to buy from the real store, but being slim fit, you should look at their suits, they should fit you well. I'd also check out Express Men.
you get what you pay for. And express you will fall apart after one year I've had
a few . I think this is one of those things you should actually spend the money on. you can get something custom for the same price is namebrand that doesn't fall apart and you'll save money in the long run.

I agree that they are cheaper and may fall apart sooner IF you wear them a lot. I am under the impression that he just needs a suit for an interview or occasional outing afterwards, so buying a cheaper suit may be a better option than shelling out $1k+ for an awesome suit.

Church/ market crossroads or buffalo exchange. Where all the gay boys trade in their designer stuff. A lot is still new. You could piece together a sweet suit on the cheap

Nice! thanks for the link! Hope it has some info for Nordstrom Rack, I might read it when I need to some day.

p.s. edit.. indeed, whatever. Not sure how did it get missed by the readers that I *have* seen *exactly* the same shirt in a Rack , at 60% discount off the 'regular size' in Nordstrom.

I have an interview in a few weeks for a supervisory position at work. I don't have a suit but will need one for the panel interview.

Where's a good place in the City to buy one?

I won't go to J.Crew 'cause it's Michelle Obama's favorite store. Ditto the Men's Wearhouse after ousting George Zimmer.

FWIW, I'm slim/athletic build, like the fitted stuff but none of that hipster/faggoty super-skinny shit.

Brooks Brothers at the Gilroy outlets.

Better to know your size and comb Ebay before it's crunch time.

Pennies on the dollar for 2500$ to 5K suits.

Drop a grand at a department store get 1-1/2 suit not tailored.

Drop a grand on Ebay and have 4 suits. As was said find a good tailor and you'll look the Dogs Balls.

This is the deal:

If you plan on buying one suit for job interviews that will sit in the closet, just go to Sears. They have lots of cheap suits and if your body is average, you should find one that fits fine.

The next option is buying a suit jacket and slacks separates. The issue here is that

If this is a position that does not require a suit, then the fashion expectation will be low. All suits of the right size will pass a cursory inspection.

You might also consider getting separate jacket and pants, because a nice jacket can be worn with jeans for a casual night out. I advise dark jackets and black slacks.

But this may be the time to get something nicer, and then from Men's Warehouse to Macy's (where I go) is a good place. I still look for a sale, but you should be able to tell the better fabrics and and what looks good on you.

Well of course there's going to be SOME overlap.....but not everything.

Carrying the exact same assortment would eventually cause everyone to abandon the regular stores and go to the Rack instead. Thus it's a good idea to carry different stuff between the two stores.

Plus, even if it's the same item, what's stopping them from selling you a return or reject without telling you?

Wrong, the original idea of Nordstrom Rack is last years styles and overstock from the main store. People who shop at Nordstrom will pay extra for the newest fashion, not last years style.

In the article you linked it explained improvements to their systems has made it such that there is a lot less extra stuff. Therefore they dont have as much inventory for the rack stores.

Anyway, as I already stated different stores get different stuff. The one in SF seems to be pretty stocked with the good shit.

Whatever the "original" idea WAS, I doubt it's still being used today. Many outlet stores (not just the Rack) have been proven to sell lower-quality stuff that isn't sold in their regular stores. There's been tons of articles about that.

i wonder when barf will have it's first official all men shopping spree..

Joseph A. Banks (same vein as Mens Wearhouse, I do believe).

If you're slim, you can probably pull off Banana Republic - they have suits, no?

If $$ is an issue, see if you can find a Burlington Coat Factory - they have decent suits (Boss, Hilfiger, Polo). You'll need to get it tailored, but you're going to have to have that done, anyway.

Is Brooks Brothers still around ? They used to be one of "the" places to get a suit

Brooks Brothers is around and they have a store in Union Square still, I think. They are fantastic, but you have to be willing to drop $1500-2000 on your kit. Joseph A Bank is great for a bargain, Nordstrom's is a nice middle range option. If you don't have your own tailor, Nordstrom's or Men's Wearhouse both have in house tailoring available. I don't know if Jos A. Bank does, I have my own guy.

Thanks for all the advice & tips but my GF found a suit I'd forgotten about in the back of her closet. Custom made during a visit to Vietnam 3 years ago. $250. Top-of-the-line Italian wool (supposedly). I hated schlepping it around for 2 weeks. Got home, put it in the closet and promptly forgot about it.

Tried the suit on last night and it fits better than I remember. Mad Men style, I guess, but not too skinny. Overall the Vietnamese tailor did an excellent job and the turn-around was 2 days. :teeth

They're such good value (asian made clothing). My Thai tailor is coming over tomorrow for me to order some new custom shirts and pants.
