Where to buy Motorex oil in the east bay?

Not that simple.

Without getting very heady about it, you will know within 60 seconds of riding an LC8/LC4 if the oil in it is not Motorex. You will know it in the way the transmission shifts. I speak from about 45000 miles of KTM ownership experience across an LC4 and two LC8s. Believe me, I tried very hard to find alternatives. Not worth it.

This was my experience with the EXC. Amsoil caused the gearbox to be wonky. Swapped back to Motorex and it is smooth, clean, and never misses a beat (unlike myself).

Not sure, but I don't think manufacturers can legally require you to use a certain brand oil to maintain the warranty. So long as it's the proper weight and meets the specs, you're good to go.

If you want the best, go with Amsoil or Redline if they make the proper weight.

Actually, my Husky owner manual goes so far to state:

"the work prescribed in the service schedule must be carried out by an authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles workshop...; otherwise, all warranty claims will be void."

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't hold up in court under Magnusson Moss

Any motorcycle shop can order it for you. You just need to walk in an ask them to order it

I used Castrol 10-50 full syn in my superduke and it shifts just fine, same as the Motorex. :thumbup

My 990 Adventure is an LC8 and I've never noticed shifting or anything else feeling different based on what oil I dump into it.

Even though you've specifically asked me to believe you, I don't. :x

I'm usually not superstitious about oil, but KTM has me under their spell to use only the magic Motorex at the weight they specified. There's something exotic about the big single LC4 that makes that much power so I don't mind feeding it a special diet.

All my motos get delicious redline

FWIW, I went from somewhat caring about oil to just using Rotella for the engine, and 90W gear oil for the chain. Saves a lot of money and grief.

Here's some info. If you race or do something that really pushes the bike to the limit, well, maybe something "better" is worth it. For me, it is not.

By the way, I used, before knee problems, to cycle a lot (20k miles or more a year). Same thing there. Expensive boutique "custom made stuff" that made no difference.

I already purchased some of the expensive motorex stuff on Amazon but shipping is taking forever so I was hoping to find a brick and mortar option.

As for whether the motorex stuff is actually worth it I'm not sure. I'm a little paranoid with the big single as it already had to be rebuilt at 12k miles before I bought it. But it had been running the motorex stuff with all changes done at scuderia so I'm not sure why I'd expect it to prevent anything.

These threads provide some useful info that I'm still sorting through. My takeaways so far are that in terms of shear you can do as good or better than motorex for less money, but it does have a strange formulation that maybe KTM designed around.

I too had a recent shipping issue with motor oil and Amazon. It was marked as shipped, but the tracking just stopped after it got to the Easy Bay and it never arrived by the estimate date. I couldnt submit a resend order myself--it kept erroring--so I contacted customer service who did a cancel and resend....they 1 day shipped the replacement. It arrived so fast on the second go around. Try messaging customer service if it is past the estimate day.

Honestly after having just replaced my failed rocker arm (bearing turned to paste), I'm not so impressed with Motorex. :mad

Will most likely try Motul starting from the next oil change

Sounds similar to what happened to mine. Burned up all its oil then the rocker arm bearing failed.

Anyone interested in a one-time group buy? I could order as a dealer from one of the big guys (Tucker Rocky, Western Power Sports, etc) for around $15/L

I picked up some Bel Ray 10w50 for my 701 this way and it was way cheaper/easier than finding it locally. 10w50 and 10w60 can be hard to find.

I could be interested in a group buy for some 10w60. Weird that they recommend a different brand for the 701. Is the transmission the same?

Actually ended up arriving ahead of schedule on friday, no complaints about the seller

Wow I thought my Empulse took some exotic oil, if your ever in the area Road Rider in San Jose had some exotic oils when I was searching for some. I won't remember there being 10w-60 that's an odd weight.

I'm told I ride my motorcycles harder than the average person, don't know if this helps but such were my experiences.

Perhaps YMWV.
