I wish I had a job as fun as this......
I wouldn't wish television or film production on anybody.
What a nightmare it must be.
I did a little bit of theater in High School, and that was fun. It's fun because you go through the shenanigans of the rehearsals (and they're pretty mild, "directing"High School students is more like herding cats), plus putting the set together and all that.
But, in the end, it's a binge of setup up, a couple of performances, then the tear down and move on, to a group dinner followed by Mud Pie.
Video production? Not so much.
It's a lot of standing around. A lot of reshoots. A lot of do over.
Consider something like the Brady Bunch. It would take them an entire day to shoot a scene at the dinner table. They had one camera (and we're not talking about an iPhone) that they had to reposition. So they were redoing the scene over, and over, and over to get all of the shots they needed (and more to throw out in editing). Plus they're "eating", with day old "dinner" sitting on their plates.
We had a video guy to a project video for one of our projects. I watched him record a guy opening a cell phone 20 times, from different angles. Expand that writ large to more complicated scenes.
Imagine in ER, which was famous for long, walking shots through the ER only to have an elevator open and the guy blow his lines. CUT!!!
And, yes, even shows like Seinfeld, recorded in front of an audience, it's not a 1/2 hour task. The audience is there for several hours, as the setup, do, redo, touch up, etc. each scene. They're not watching a play.
Not for me. Not my kind of work.
Kudos to those that can put up with it and put together the products we see today.
