Probably weird to be thinking about my second bike already since i have only been riding for 4 months with ~4-5k miles under my belt.... Currently have a 06 ninja 650r... however cannot get the idea of having a super moto out of my head....

However looking on craigslist everything is 4k+, are these the trucks of the moto world that just dont depreciate?

Also, is there enough places to ride around bay (im in fremont area) to warrant a supermoto?

Won't be able to afford one for awhile.. but eventually....eventually..

supply and demand of supermotos. you can find some beat up drz400's for relatively cheap

I would have to say that they are cheap for used track bikes. New track bikes are easily $10-15,000 by the time you purchase a YZF/CRF/KTM and set up the suspension wheels and brakes. My Husaberg would probably sell for about $3000, it would cost 3 times that to start over.

Street going versions are basically the same thing, only someone gave mouth love to a DMV employee for a plate. A plate that may get taken away someday ( unlike the taste in their mouth).:laughing So, other than the DRZ, dirt bikes with a plate are a valuable commodity, which is to me rediculous. But it is what it is.

Think of them as a designer drug. Once you throw a leg over, turn the throttle, take off from a standstill on one wheel, and terrorize the streets you will see that they're really quite the bargain.
The also give the rider the illision of eternal youth and sexiness!
Far less expensive than a cocaine habit :thumbup

You mean it's only an illusion??
Fuck...I paid too much...:(

DelusionalChick

Jeebies WoodsChick, 28 is still considered youthful and sexi.

well hopefully i will be able to get one within a year or so... probably keep both bikes and see where i go from there..

Do you mean a trail bike? Or a track bike? I don't think i can afford track days quite yet :rofl

supermoto track days are WAYY cheaper than big track days

how much we talking here?

On a side note...why is the drz400sm referred to as a tractor? Is it because it is super slow? Everything i am reading points to that as a the best first reliable/most bang for buck supermoto

I had one. Not enough oomph. Relatively (to race sumos) heavy. Suspension/brakes aren't husky/ktm/husaberg quality.

I think it's 40 for the day, 20 for a half day or something like that.

holly crap that is cheap :teeth

What would be a better street legal alternative that is in the same price range?

Like they said in the beginning g of the thread
ATK 605 DSe
They can still be had for around 3k
They're a bit long wheelbases and heavy at. 280lbs but a lot of fun even bone stock. Pretty soon you can run them in vintage as well.

The only "cheap" factory street legal supermoto worth buying is the drz. Or possibly that wr250x yamaha made a few years ago.

$40 crack days at infineon.

16 replies and not one "Because they're worth it"? You people are slipping. Or sliding.

If you've priced a new dirt bike lately, the price of sumos would make more sense.

Take a supermoto school at Brok's. Or one of the dirt track schools up at Prairie City. That way, you can rent a bike and try sliding around for low cost, and see if it's your sort of drug.

It's great training for a n00b either way.
