Why do so many iPhone owers use the "Strum" ringtone?

ppl that leave their phones on silent are a joy to get a hold of.

i need your input on something right now, otherwise i wouldnt be calling. having a phone on silent and missing the call defeats that purpose entirely.

oh. i cant rem Strum ever being the default iOS ringtone. "Marimba" back in iOS4 and now "Opening" as of iOS7 i think. Strum is def one of the least offensive though.

I work in a production environment that moves very quickly at times. I've never had an issue where someone could not get in touch with me due to my phone being on silent.

My phone vibrates and is on me 99% of my waking hours.

Also, when working events, having your phone ring is a big no-no.

Other than that, I can be reached via gchat, text, imessage, slack, email and carrier pigeon.

As all phones should be.

Someone I know has "the Strum" on loud volume, even if evidently due to a load of family, extracurricular or whatever financial work she gets randomly called during about ~30% of our business meetings.
...
She replied "I don't know how to do it, my daughter increased it for me!"

Not getting the 'all phones should be on silent' thing. Is a ringing phone in a normal public setting rude now? I didn't get the memo on that one.

If overly loud headphones and boomboxes are rude, then so are ringtones.

A phone ringing is a 10-15 second generation of noise. If that long.

Don't see how that's comparable to someone with a constant stream of overly loud personal music.

Is actually talking on a phone rude then too?

Geez, you're in public. People and things make noise. If you're in a more quiet environment, I get it. But in everyday public settings, expecting people to have their phones on silent all the time seems rather silly.

Does my office phone need to be on silent too? Maybe with just some flashing lights so I know someone is calling.
