Why do YOU name your bike?

Hey guys,
I've noticed that a lot of people I've seen vlogging or just talked to seem to name their motorcycles. But on the flipside I've talked to others that just trash talk and "would never do something like that for an inanimate object". I understand that it's all personal choice, and being a system builder (computers) at work I name every one. So my question to you guys is this: What is the name of your bike (if it has one) and what does it symbolize to you? Just want to get a feel of what people's motorcycles actually mean to them.

^^ Moved to 'General'... from 'Newbies' ^^

Inanimate objects don't like to be named, it upsets them.

A bike and B bike should be the only names, anything else is a bit creepy and you need to invest in one of those lifelike hooker robots to talk to

SV, GSXR and Tuono are what they are called. When crashed it's usually "that fucking shitheap"

One of my friend with a wonderfull $150k collection of bikes told me: "Ernie, for you bikes are a commodity". That's the case with most racers and track riders, as they get crashed, smashed and bashed enough that you don't form attachments.

Naming motorcycles and cars is lame. :rolleyes I've never named one.

It has to be living and breathing, and usually able to actually recognize its name before I'll come up with a name. :cool

I used to call the Sportster "That piece of shit". It was a very accurate description. The KTM is "The KTM". The XR75 and CT70 are "The Mini Bikes. The Red One, or The Blue One". The 40 other bikes I've had have never been named.

I use to nick/name cars and bikes, for short or convenience or because we didn't like the name. Even if it's just "The blue one", "the Red one", "the old one" etc. From that the name evolves to something else, if something happens in its life span with me.
Eg. I had this car who crashed so bad, I thought it would be totalled. It wasn't. So wife came up with "Peter Perfect", because it was rebuilt like new again, as was the character's car:

I never named any of my bikes except after totaling one & calling it a "pile of sh_t!"

That is until my astonishment of buying the ZX12R in May, 00'. It immediately became (said affectionately) "The Beastie." Like others on here who know about riding "hyperbikes" & the absolutely silly engine power of these things from down low to top end, it's warranted.

I also called it my "Giggle-bike" because of the way I would spontaneously break out in giggles while riding. Accidental wheelies everywhere, spinning the tire unintentionally, & other funny HP-like things.

IF you've never ridden a hyperbike, beg, borrow, or buy one for a few months. You will never be sorry....:teeth

I name my vehicles only. I have two boats that have names, a car and two bikes. I also have a pickup truck, but funny how i havent named that one :/ i also had an old corolla that i hated and just called it "piece of Sh8t car" everyday.

I've always considered hyper-bikes, those bikes with 150-190hp, not 100. I had a GSXR 1000 Superbike with 185 atthe wheel, 370 lbs, that would pull the front wheel off at well over 100 mph, that was a hyperbike. Scared the shit out of me.

The names I choose for my bikes rarely stick. The names I choose for my friend's bikes they think are funny and continue to use them long after the bike is gone.

A friend of mine had an old Buell S2T that was a police bike in some rural GA town. I started calling his bike "Chief." I know he continued to call that bike Chief for at least the next five years.

When I worked at the local Ducati dealership, my friend (the co-owner and service manager) got a 999r painted up in full Marlboro race livery. When referencing that bike we still call it "Smoky."

The nickname of my V-Strom is Thurmond, but I usually just call it The Strom.

I'm trying to refer to my ST4s as Grande Rosso even though I'm not 100% sure if that's the proper Italian for Big Red. If someone wanted to correct me, I'm listening. :thumbup

You got it. I rode mine for a decade until I flat just didn't fit it anymore, & sold it to a bud who lives in Galveston, TX. I now am grateful it's in a good home, & the new owner is constantly fixing it up even more than I did. He's a relaxed rider & doesn't ride it fast.

It now only comes out on bike-nights, bike-shows, & local meets, & he's picked up numerous awards/trophies w/it. Cool...:thumbup

But oh boy, to ride one up on the pipe w/some hp, hopping the front on the 5th to 6th gear shift (175mph)....weeee! Was so much fun....I miss that bike a lot...:ride

I traded a dirt bike for it (06 YZ450F Limited Edition, I bought it new, and still had the original tires) the GSXR had a full Yoshimura extremely high compression, type R cams, engine, Yosh ECU, yosh Adjustable Triples, Marchesini Magnesiums, everything, and he traded me straight across. I rode it about 4 times around the neighborhood, at about 6000rpm in 3rd, coming on the pipe, it lit the tire up, and wheelied, at least 100mph. With new pirelli slicks (16.5). I parted it out and made a bit of money. The 16.5 Marchesinis took about 2 years to sell though.

A couple years later, some guy from England calls me, asks if I still had the triples, Nope, if I could find them and get them back, he'd give me $1200 for them (I sold them for $600), I guess they're rare and valuable.

I do name the hood of my car "the stable"....because that's where I keep all my horses.

Wow, sounds very nice. I raced many on GSXR1000's/1300's. The 1000's would stay ahead until about 177mph, then I'd slowly pass as 6th gear got up on the pipe. Busa's always got the jump, & would stay ahead all the way until the very top of 6th gear, then it was pretty even.

Problem was, I was ~285lbs. w/gear would make it 300lbs. Always had a severe weight disadvantage. Seemed to always count on who got the jump, me or them. Weee......The Beastie....so much fun. Most fun you can have w/your pants on.....except maybe racing on the track. The only thing better is a good dice for an entire race....:teeth
