For cheap rearset brackets!

So last Weds 7/15 I was on my way home to start getting ready to hed out to Laugan the next day. Taking it easy had just got off freeway and coming to a stop sign when all of a sudden i felt my right foot/leg slip out from under me. I took me by complete surprise that I ended up dropping my bike. Luckily it was almost at a stand still and i had full sliders so only a light scratch on the rear fairing. At first i just chalked it off to me just loosing my balance and since i had a car behind me and was blocking traffic I quickly picked up the bike and tried to get going. at a quick glance nothing seemed wrong.

So i get going and when i try to place my right foot on the peg nothing is there. I quickly pull off carefully since i had to only the front brake to use.

Here is what i found.

And of coarse the stealership doesnt carry these in stock.

what pisses my off most is the bike is only 2 months old. I dont stand on the pegs nor do I stunt the bike to have put alot of stress on them to justify this shit from happening.

So here I am waiting to see if my part came in yet and if Yamaha will cover it.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Did it fall off under the weight of your leg or did it break off when the bike tipped over?

from the weight of my leg seems to be. And since the bike had sliders and it fell basically almost at a stop maybe 1-5mph. and since the pegs are made to fold up you wouldnt think the drop would cause this and leave the rest of the bike in tact. the street was smooth so its not like it fell on some rock that hit that one area or anything.

LOL... typical rice bike quality. Get a BMW or a Ducati!

(laughs, ducks and runs)

I thought the frame on those things split like a twig?

:twofinger

+1

I also know a dude who's handle bar straight snapped off on his brand new GXXeR and it was @ speed... Needless to say his bike got F*CKED! going on 6 weeks and still nothing from Suzuki

Hmm, sucks, but...front brake is more than sufficient. Aside from not being too comfortable, I don't think this is much of a reason to skip out on GP.

I was actually kidding. :teeth

Don't know anything about the GSXR's durability, but I've always been impressed by their top end power, and for that, I respect their lineup. :thumbup

I dunno.. i guess my skill or comfort level is not as high but i wouldn't hit the freeway from SF to Laguna with no rear brake (I use both front and rear) and also not having anywhwere to place my right foot as if u see where the bracket broke is the only place the bracket connects to the frame and its just dangling. Not trying to ride 120+ miles like that.

I still think i made the right and responsible choice.

I've seen some wrecks and also read some stories about the frame issue. but it seemd to be on the newer ones. As i used to own one back int he day and never had a problem besides normal wear and tear.

Rider crashed R1 in a straight line on smooth pavement. Footpeg bracket broke. Rider angry at Yamaha that bracket isn't built to resist crashing. Rider angry at Yamaha dealer for not stocking new bracket. Rider wants crash damage covered under warranty.

Ha ha.. funny cause that what they trie to write it off as when i got it to the dealership. Then i got irate and said look at the bike.. no damage whatso ever except a nick on the rear fairing (thank god i had sliders both frame and swing arm). even if it had been caused by the drop is that braket made out of paper and not aluminun to have not resisted a almost stand still drop? also at close look the peg had no damage what so ever which they made sure to check out. So that would lead to believe that the rearset never even touch the ground when the bike went down.

needless to say they didnt have anything to say after that. I had to wait there for about 45mins for my ride to come and everyone that looked at it was like WTF.. never seen that... yea no damage whatsoever.. clean break no bending or anything.

sounds like a perfect time to upgrade to some aftermarket rearsets. That way when you drop it again they won't break. My R1 is a year old and I ride mine fairly hard and nothing's broke yet even after dragging them. Just out of curiosity what do ya weigh ?

Dude, if it did indeed break under the weight of his leg, then for sure he's got a beef with Yamaha. What if this happened in the twisties or at speed on the freeway and his leg hit the ground and he got ripped right off the bike? I'll occasionally stand up just a bit at speed to adjust the ol' grundle, and it would SUCK if the footpeg decided to fall off that point.

uh why are you talking to us and not yamaha corporate? Write them a letter, send photographic evidence, dates etc.

It truly appears this failed for no good reason, I personally woudl be pissed and concerned.

If they dont respond, take it to the next level. What if you were hurt?
