why not have medics on bikes that could report quickly somewhere for things that dont require an ambulance, or could be first to arrive to a scene?

makes sense or am i just stoned?

Carnegie SVRA out in Livermore used to have a program like that... I rode on their Off-Road Patrol for 3 years. We carried radios and first aid kits with us, and I just went out and rode. Someone needed help, they could flag us down, or the base would radio us. We did first response emergency first aid, until the paramedics showed up.
Don't know how you'd coordinate something like that for the street, tho... there's expense involved, who's dispatching, who's making sure the first responders have the training they say they do...
But I always try to stop to help at any accident where Fire Dept hasn't shown up yet.

FD/PD/Chp is usually there within minutes anyway. In case you dont know, CHP's are required to be certified as EMT's now.

medics are always nice to have, but there is only so much they can do with a small little first aid bag

"Required" only in that CHP decided it was something they wanted to do- and since it needed funding, they got it written.

They have them in most major cities in the UK, and for all I know, the rest of europe.

The cities there are so unbelievably old that the streets weren't really laid out for wheeled traffic of ANY kind, let alone automobiles, so the traffic in London especially is nearly always hideous.

They get there first, stabilize the patient, and keep them going until the ambulance gets there.

Awesome. I bet they can carry quite a bit more than a little first aid kit in those containers on those bikes in London.

Excellent to see. Should have more.

I know there are plenty of young riders out there that would take such a job for less than $50K. Not too much of a dent in the city's budget...

It make total and complete sense. That's why we don't have them in the Bay Area.
