There is an interesting two-part article arguing why Valentino Rossi will finish his career on a Ducati:

For those of you with short attention spans who can't manage to spend five minutes reading it, here's the summary. Valentino Rossi is little by little surpassing all of Giacomo Agostini's records so that he can become the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) in road racing. He can't surpass the number of overall wins because Agostini used to race multiple classes, so the total wins number is safely out of reach. But it will only take two or three more years to get past the number of wins in the premier class.

He's shown that he could take an uncompetitive bike (Yamaha) and turn it into a winner. The Ducati isn't exactly uncompetitive in the right hands, but he would be proving one more time that he can ride anything. He's only committed to Yamaha through 2010, and he's hinted multiple times that he would love to ride an Italian bike. It would make sense to pass Agostini's record of 122 wins on an Italian motorcycle.

I've been wishing for rossi to race a ducati for years now...hope it comes true...

After the success that he has had with Yamaha, and vice versa.

I will put 10 bucks on him finishing his career on a Yamaha.

umm wonder what company will win the bidding war? what company has deeper pockets? would be interesting to sit in on this Valentino auction. got astronomical price going once, twice, do we hear super astronomical price? sold tooo.....

F#$k the Duc. Put him on an Ape...... The final blow to Biaggi...

If this was back in his Honda days, you would be out $10.

Getting your championships mixed up?

No I know Biaggi is in WSBK. And I know that those two don't like each other. They put an Ape in motogp and Rossi on it. Biaggi would just die....:teeth

It makes sense. Rossi is Italian and knows that his fans would love this. It would be the ultimate "show" to see him riding a Ducati. Also, Rossi isnt the type to just sit back and cruise to a win. Especially on the Yamaha which everyone is saying is the best bike right now. I think Rossi wants a new challenge. That will be taming the Ducati, winning a couple championships on it and then he will retire.

I would love to see Rossi on Ducati and have a feeling it will come true....
That IMO would be the ultimate.
a1scoot:thumbup

I've heard rumors about this since I started watching racing maybe four or five years ago. It would be fun to see him be competitive on a Ducati. Stoner is a great rider, but he's never been much fun to watch. If he wasn't in the lead by a quarter of a mile, then he played it safe, rode smart and got points. While I don't want to belittle the strategy behind winning a GP championship, I like how Rossi isn't afraid to jump into a dog fight.

Meh! Dookitty have their own baggage to deal with. :thumbdown

But how about on an MV Agusta - Agostini's old mount. :thumbup

Could be an interesting play for HD and could even explain why they bought MV. Granted MV dont have a MotoGP bike - but Ross Brawn didnt have an F1 car either and it didnt stop Brawn dominating their rookie season.

Very doubtful.

For one, Ducati cares more about their bike than they do the rider. In other words, they believe it's the bike more so than the rider that brings them the wins.

This is why Rossi won't sign on with Ducati.

Secondly, it would take a lot of tweaking/compromise/R&D/etc. to bring the bike to Rossi's liking which is what Ducati is NOT known to do. They rather find a rider who can adapt to their bike than make a bike to adapt to the rider.

So, with this in mind, Rossi would be struggling for wins which defeats the objective: To surpass Giacomo Agostini's records.

Just my .02

if he did this Italy would probably crown him as a national treasure and grant him droit de seigneur for the entire nation.

That seems to be just the opposite of what Casey Stoner said when he switched from Honda to Ducati. He pointed out that at Ducati they actually listened to his suggestions as to how he wanted the bike to work, and that was a big change from Honda.

I think he'll jump on a ducaca spank everyone and walk out from GP on a duc championship then retire, only to come back and jump on a Suzuki and prove to everyone and him self that he won championships on all major manufactures.
