Wish I didn't ride today...

There are days when it is in our best interest to park it and PT it. Sympathy to those that must ride on days like today. When they close the San Rafel bridge to MT trucks and RVs, well you know what im sayin.

Oh come on.. let's have a slumber party! :rofl

serious- I'm gonna BBQ tonight rain or shine, I have a CBR F3 to get running and some beers to drink after that so.. it's not inconveniencing me at all.

Pillow fight? :laughing That might convince me.

I have a concert to get to though in the city :party

Sad thing is I have a car, I am just foolish :rofl Thought about driving and was like nah, I got a good spot, can't be that bad. Of course it isn't till leg two of the bridge that I had the oh shit moments.

Didn't know they closed the San Rafael bridge to trucks.

I'm in ur business park, knockin' over ur trees?

Fine, fuck ya then, go ahead and risk your life on that scary ol bridge.. :twofinger

-serious.. the offer is open if you do, if not that's okay too.

The second scariest moment I've ever had on a motorcycle was on the Bay Bridge, coming back from San Francisco, in the middle of a huge rainstorm.

The scariest was in British Columbia in a rainstorm so severe that my front spark plug got fouled and that cylinder starting cutting out, 60 miles from anything, and I do mean anything. Not even a structure or overpass under which to take shelter.

Came over the BB westbound this morning at about 8.30am. Split the cantilever section, but the wind was really pushing me around on the suspension side. Found myself wishing I'd ridden the lower profile Tuono instead of the big sail of a KTM Adventure. Far more adrenalin generated than strictly necessary. :~)

Yeah everyone keeps saying the suspension side is worse, but I have the most trouble on the other side. Eastbound this morning though.

Ride around the bay to San Jose if your scared of the bridge

:laughing That would take forever but it is an option. Actually the wind is almost gone now, and not nearly what it was when I came in. Thinking it might be ok this evening. Might take off a bit early.

Actually it looks like wind advisory over at 3. Nice.

Wind Advisory now in effect until 3 PM PDT this afternoon...

The Wind Advisory is now in effect until 3 PM PDT this afternoon.

* Timing: gusty southerly winds will persist into early this
afternoon.

* Winds: sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.
Winds maybe be stronger over the hills.

* Impacts: high winds may topple trees and bring down power
lines. Power outages are likely. In addition... driving will be
difficult for motorists with high profile vehicles or
trailers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Don't be such a wuss.. :p Its pouring again BTW..

You're not gonna fall over if you stay in the gas; even if you don't and back off the throttle, you're still not gonna fall over. It just feels like you're going to. :teeth Not unless you stop.. the wind in southern Kali/AZ and NV is WAY worse than this.

Stay on the gas and whack open the throttle; ride it like a two stroke and work that throttle and clutch, stomp on the pegs when your getting blasted; -BTDT fuck it, ride faster!

When I did commute from SF I would just push my luck and go. Most of the time it wouldn't be so bad. Since the bike is my only mode of transportation I really had no choice. Thank fully now I work closer to home with no bridges or really bad terrain changes. With this recent storm has brought to my attention that maybe I do need a cage for these instances. Safe ride and post up to let us know your safe. :ride

Man, it's cold out there. Don't remember ever being this cold for just a ride to lunch and back on flat land. My fingers and legs got very cold within minutes.

Regarding the rain, that don't bother me at all. I actually kind of like it sometimes.

It was the wind, and I know I am a wuss. Actually usually don't have a problem, this morning though the gusts were bad. I know the speed thing, usually my tactic is to go faster and it feels much better. Couldn't today though. I was stuck behind a truck going slowly and I couldn't get around. 35-45 mph is not fast enough I know.

I usually try to ride in stuff like this to learn since if I do longer trips there will be times when you are riding no matter what the weather is. It was gusty elsewhere but only had troubles on the bridge.

Maybe I was just off this morning and I let it get to me too much. :dunno :teeth

when i cross a bridge and its windy and i get scared I downshift and keep the rpm high that will stabilize the bike.

it's all good op we've all been there! fwiw the western span is way worse swear to god one time i was riding to san francisco after the toll, wtf are you gonna do turn around? (not after yb lol!) and there were gusts of up to 60 mph! crosswinds.
I was so fucking scared my legs were literally shaking on the pegs, i turned on my emergency flashers and at one point was just lucky i didn't get smashed into the side of the #1 lane.
nevada, socal, arizona whatever gusting side winds of 40+mph 100+' high over water? yeah it can get downright scary sometimes! steady sidewinds over land are alot easier to negotiate!
if ya still need a place to park i have a relatively secure place in Oakland by San Pablo and Jefferson

Let's see......yup, gloves are still wet, just the outside though. It's almost nice out now and I only have to be on the freeway for 15 minutes so I can't bitch about it.

I thought about taking light rail but I'd get even wetter walking or cycling to the station than I do on the bike with all my "waterproof" gear.

Yeah my liners dried out but gloves and outer layers still damp.

Thanks man, I really appreciate all of the offers for help.

I am going to ride home. Just went out for a smoke and the weather was fine. Nice even hahaha.

Left early and the ride was uneventful and actually better than other days this week.

One thing though, totally glad I rode in now as traffic was terrible.
