To get into work I have to stop at two gates to show my badge and without fail I am constantly fumbling around and generally looking/feeling like a fool. So far I've tried a lanyard, a retractable clip, and clipping it onto my bag.

What's your system?

Kill two birds with one stone...

Get a First Gear mil-spec vest and make yourself Hi-Viz on your commute AND utilize the velcro chest mounted credential pocket to solve your ID crisis.

Get a fixed length lanyard (I used an IOMTT one). Zip up with your badge under your jacket. Just before you get to the gate, unzip and flick out your badge. On gate number two you can just grab the badge and present as you pass. Easy Peasy. Retractable lanyards don't work as well.

Just tuck it under your sleeve and whip it out only when you need it.

If you wear a 'stitch you can buy a velcro on, clear vinyl pocket for your left wrist to display your badge in. Works well for National Parks passes at Yosemite. They also sell the same window with wide elastic bands for regular jackets. Handy for carrying cash for tolls also.

Glue it on your helmet and headbutt the sensors from the bike.

? It comes with a clip, clip it to your shirt before you enter the gates.

Been at my job for 8+ years and never once fumbled with it. Use the clip sillly.
If you have to swip it to get in a gate, remove it from the plastic case it comes in or simply unclip it and swipe.

Not sure I understand this thread. haha

Unless you left out an important detail, like you ride your motorcycle in to work?

This is a plausible assumption :twofinger

Loving the responses guys! I might get shot trying to wheelie in though; a swingarm mount while doing stoppies however... :ride:cool

Hmm just checked out the Aerostich sleeve pouch - would definitely work, except I don't have a stich :( Makes me think though that one of those sport armbands for MP3 players might do the trick.

My tank bag has a transparent map pocket, cheaper than a stich or other jacket
with velcro-on clear pocket. It's a cortech, made by tourmaster.

If you can sew (or can hit up someone who can),
you could make your own clear pocket too.

I have a security gate that I must get through behind the barbed wire gate that leads into a security door x 4 in order to get to my office at work.
When I ride I place my badge in my left pocket of my mc jacket and then stop at the gate pull off my glove and hold my badge up to the little sensor and then I have that badge in the ready to pass through the rest of thew gates/doors/hallways......

not a creative solution but one that works.

However, wearing my helmet as I enter some of these security areas does get me some unwanted attention from control central!

Beat me to it.

Also, if you have a tank bag, clip the retractable key thing with your badge attached to the rear of the tankbag. Usually they have a handle. Then it's easy to grab and show. I do that when I have my CamelBak bladder in my tankbag. The retractable thingy manages the bite valve. It's always at hand and easy to grab and use. And then I just let go and it snaps back into place.

I made friends with the guards so they know me by sight and wave me through...

I suggest bringing Krispy Kremes to the guard shack until they recognize you. :laughing

Edit: They make magnetic badge holders: http://www.jamplastics.com/badge-holders/magnetic-badge-holders I think they're designed to clamp onto a shirt pocket but I'm sure you can modify it to slap onto your tank.
