Another good one! :thumbup

Best line from on of the announcers when Melandri blew a corner: "Melandri goes so far outside he's going to need a ticket to get back in." :laughing

Potentially the next big thing. Check out this thread: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482471&highlight=superstock

Toprak was standout in European Superstock 600 and Superstock1000. He's a protegé of Kenan Sofuoglu who is set on developing Turkish racing talent. Johnny Rea has talked up Toprak's talent.

Great WSBK race 2. Pumped for Brno.

Interesting. Has he done well this season? I didn't renew my SBK pass this year, but have been semi paying attention to results, mainly seeing if Chaz or Rea won on any give weekend. But I'm well out of the loop.

Razgatlioglu has been finishing around 10th this season. The podium is impressive because he wasn't really gifted any positions and he performed so well against the best riders on the grid.

Glad to see that there was no wholesale binning as in the last WSS300 race. Classy fellow on the grid held up a get-well-soon card for the guy he ran over in the previous round. Speaking of class, teams should have a clue about riders wanting to give shout-outs via printed 8 1/2x11 sheets ... don't leave your man trying to hold a flimsy sheet of print paper. It looks like you don't care. One fellow had it together with a notice printed on a colored background attached to a clipboard. Look ma, one hand. It's the least they could do to make the whole team look like something more than knuckle draggers.

WorldSBK race 2 is certainly deserving of a rewatch. Lowes was crazy aggressive early. I thought he would chuck it in the time honored Lowes brothers fashion, but he kept the shiny side up two races in a row. van der Mark is going from strength to strength. To digress, Lowes' congratulations of teammate van der Mark after Race 1 said a lot about his sportsmanship and perhaps about a healthy team dynamic which is working for both riders. Yamaha seem to have gotten on terms with Kawasaki in just a handful of races. They must have been working like fiends. Rea was having to gather his wheels back time after time as he attempted to press a pace that the Kawasaki would not endure. It's not often that you see Rea's leg writhing untidyly as he tries to keep his Kawasaki vertical. Razgatlioglu looked like Pac-Man® chasing Rea down for 2nd. In the words of Darth Vader, "Impressive, most impressive."

Camera positioning, focal depth, panning motion, and booth direction all added up to a superb video job over the weekend. Congratulations to the WorldSBK video crew for providing coverage which richly displayed the character of the track and the speed of competition. I do not remember previously seeing a meeting at Donington which conveyed the excitement of the sport nearly as well.

I was having a beer after the basketball game last night at a local pub and the bartender changed the tv to a replay of Race 1. Sitting next to me was a woman in her 70s with her son and his GF. As the mom started watching the action on TV, mainly the dicing between the 2 Kawi's she started really getting into it...

"Oh my goodness, I've never seen this before... look at them, they're making me nervous, they're so close and going so fast...." and "It's like ballet, they're so in synch with each other!" and "This is really exciting."

The only thing the son new about it was "The green bikes are Kawasakis." I explained a little about it without getting too technical, and that these are the guys that race at Laguna.

:laughing

WSBK may have a new fan.

Announced this morning: Toprak Razgatlıoğlu just signed for another WSBK season with Puccetti racing.

WSBK silly season is still wide open with essentially everyone in the paddock having a contract expiring at the end of this season.

Late to bring this up, but still: why do they continue to call it "Superpole"? It was called that because if you got pole, it was for both races. But it's not any longer, with the whole retarded "reverse grid" thing for Race 2. So shouldn't they simply call it "Qualifying" at this point?

WSBK used the term "SuperPole" for years. They can use the term however they want. SuperPole in WSBK used to be one flying lap but has evolved into the SP1 and SP2 format.

its kinda still 1 flying lap because of Q tires. if/when Pirelli stops making those, they should def stop calling it SP

The new Q tires for 2018 allow for two laps and sometimes three if the track is real short.

This two session format is a bit more fair than the old time trial system because the track conditions could change over 20 minutes or so. Downside is it turns the end of FP sessions into mock qualifying sessions like in GP.

I didnt c anyone get 2 at Donnington. Pirelli keeps touting their Q tires as being able to go further, but it still doesn't seem to be enough at most tracks for 2 full laps. or maybe riders just make mistakes on the 2nd one.

if/when riders can push them 1 1/2 - 2 laps, im surprise don't treat them like F1. first lap is hot-ish with the sole purpose of getting the tires HOT. then the go for 1 amazing flyer.

mock qualifying at the end of FP so isn't a downside. im sure that change increased viewership of FPs just like in GP.

Holy smokes. Josh Herrin and Attack Performance have a wild card entry for WSBK at Laguna. They don't come right and say it but this reads like the team will compete in both MA and WSBK that weekend. Stanboli mentions having extra wheels on hand for Pirellis, different bodywork and the possibility of swapping springs between sessions to accommodate the different tires.

Lots of track time.
