You can probably speak to this better than me, but the most Mexican Cousin of my Mexican part of the family has had something like 5 Parties from initial announcement to one I think post birth with his latest kid.

Just the fact that he invited the men in the family to a Baby Shower was unsettling to me, but he just told me that is how Latinos do it.

I called his wife for congrats and sent a Baby Present to the party with my Mom and Sister who were going, but I bowed out of going to the party.

I think some people just come from cultures that really want excuses to get kid friendly family gatherings together. I bet Italians LOVE this shit.

What happened to just having a baby shower? More reasons for people to celebrate themselves, I guess.

Such a hubbub just to tell people this information? What exactly does it do to help parents prepare? Are there boy diapers or girl diapers one needs to have on hand when the day comes?

Way I figure. You want a boy? Have just a good old fashioned baby shower, and invite Luca...

They could have just bought some inexpensive harmless confetti cannons and shot them inside

Some people have money to spend or flaunt on pyrotechnics

When you add up the numerous hours and gray hairs that you acquire to get your kids(s) to that level, it's easier to understand why it's such a big deal to parents.

It's also a big deal for your kid's future and one of the people that sees that bumper sticker is the kid who achieved that.

Also, if you ARE selective about the children you hunt for food, it makes total sense in the selection process if someone can pre-screen them for hard work and intelligence, which makes for better meat, it is nice to put that out where it can be seen.

So, you know, keep putting shit about your kids out in public where strangers can see it while you don't know they are watching.
 
Gender reveal parties are a recent thing, they only started a few years ago when people started posting them up on IG and FB. 100% these parents did it for the gram likes.

To those who replied, how many of you actually have kids? Just wondering.

I didn't do gender reveals. I just told friends and family who asked.
 
I have several kids. Youngest is 26. Clearly predating the current trend of gender reveal parties.

We did never find out what the gender was prior to birth. We never asked they never told us.

I guess if I knew the gender prior to birth I probably would have told my family and close friends. But I certainly wouldn't have put on some goofus party and certainly not with stupid pyrotechnics that's going to cause a brush fire in one of the driest years we've seen in a long time.

Common sense clearly isn't that common anymore. Or at least not commonly employed.
 
My first wife got a baby shower, family and close friends only, and women only. She specifically asked for basic stuff only (diapers, diaper bag, neutral onesies, baby cap, binkies, that kind of stuff. We didn't want to know gender and the medical folks honored that.

The next two were with Mrs. Bad Example, but we got them as teens so no real surprises. She had always wanted an orphanage and that's what we got. The latest is our 16 year old granddaughter.

Things do seem to have changed, though. A coworker held an everyone invited "Expecting Parents Celebration" at BJ's, then an everyone invited Baby Shower with some pretty extravagant gifts, then an everyone invited Gender Reveal Party...not to mention an Amazon Gift Registry. By the time it was announced (by cake; no confetti, balloons, or Tannerite) and everyone was clapping I seriously had to restrain myself from shouting out "It's okay dude, you'll get it right next time!" It all seemed a bit mercenary to me, as both parents made plenty of money, far more than many of the guests.

Then again, I was raised in the era where you just cared if the kid was healthy and that the mother recovered without complications. Gender was none of our business.

On top of it all the traditional binary is by no means a guarantee. One of my toughest, very outwardly masculine nephews is now a happy niece. Took my family by surprise but even the elderly grandmothers rolled with it.

Considering where our culture is, a gender reveal might want to wait until the child makes a proclamation in the teen/pre-teen years.

As a bonus, you get to sort through your friends and figure out who the bigots are.
