For those of you who think bad things don't happen, this was in San Jose, then they came and dumped a car near my house:

From the story:
They drove to the area of Bret Harte Drive looking for a place to smoke when they saw an older man and woman tending to their lawn. Two hours later, they returned to the home and forced their way inside after the female homeowner answered the door. One of them brandished a knife.
The reports say that the intruders bound the homeowners with duct tape and sat them in a bathtub and gave them blankets and pillows before rummaging through the home and taking cash, jewelry and high-priced electronics and fleeing in the victims' two cars, a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Highlander SUV.
After selling off some of the stolen jewelry at stores in San Jose and Morgan Hill the next day, they drove the Highlander to the Uvas Reservoir and used the Camry to push it into the water, police say. They drove to Los Banos, and on their way back to San Jose, they were stopped by a California Highway Patrol Officer on Highway 152 but sped away, the reports said. After spinning out near Hollister, the three abandoned the car and split up, eluding police before taking a taxi to San Jose.

I'm going to say this again:
This was not a typical situation. I have dealt with many solicitors and bullshit assholes coming to my door or walking down my driveway and into my place. I have also had people just walk into our house when work was being done with the intent on stealing something. Since then, we have changed things. When I say "no thank you" the first time to a door to door weiner, they leave. This guy was not like those. He was determined about something. I took that stance he had and his demeanor (as well as his lack of leaving
after being asked multiple times) as a threat.
You can all armchair this anyway you want. Could I have not answered the door? Maybe. Could I have opened and closed the door after saying fuck off? Maybe.
But when someone is banging on your door and ringing your bell, I'm not taking any chances. I displayed authority and force and this fucker still didn't leave. When he stepped forward to the threshold I gave him a last warning and displayed dog and motioned for the iron. He then left as did his van of homeskillets.
The local PD knows all about this, I gave the Chief a memo this AM.
And for those saying call PD, the last time this happened it took 20 minutes to respond. And guess what? When they found the bunch one was a wanted Felon. Why does it take so long? Because PD is starved for resources and has a small patrol at night. SCC SO is now supplementing some, but still we need more cops on the street.
So, knowing all the above, and having dealt with violent offenders in the past, I'm not taking any chances. These fuckers come in or breach, I wont say leave again, it's showtime.
IMO, I did the perfect assessment. I reviewed the surrounding area which I have full visibility of from the second floor. I knew this guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time and
took appropriate action by being ready. I gave three full verbal commands after I said "No thank you" to leave. After ignoring all that and the Dogs teeth showing, Dude stepped up toward the threshold and I gave a final loud warning. This plus his Van of hooli's pulling up changed the dynamic DRAMATICALLY. Lucky for him, He paused, muttered more bullshit and danced away after I displayed and showed intent to keep him from coming inside.
Spin it all you want, again, I don't care. My home, my family, my life. It wont be sacrificed to some meth head scumbag fuck because I'm not prepared or choose to just hide in a closet waiting to die before PD shows up. Fuck that. Nobody's breaching my home without a fight.
The bottom line is my family is safe tonight, I'm still sucking wind and we can sleep in our warm beds instead of possibly a dirt nap. I can live with my actions above very well, and will sleep just fine tonight knowing I'm ready if need be.
