- Backstory
My son is 12 and has an Xbox. He wants an Xbox One. So, I told him at the beginning of the school year that this would be entirely up to him and grade dependent:
  • Any Ds, he looses the Xbox entirely.
  • Any Cs, things stay as they are, he keeps what he has, but no upgrade.
  • All Bs or better for the ENTIRE school year and he gets an upgrade to an Xbox One.
The way I explained it was:
  • People who don't show up for work, or don't do the work, get fired.
  • People who do the minimum work required get a minimal paycheck.
  • People who exceed expectations get a paycheck and a bonus.
The first two Trimesters were straight Bs. It's looking like, with 27 days left in the school year, that he's going to pull it off! If he does it'll be my turn to step up and make good on my commitment. :thumbup

- Question
Is it possible to move games and/or game saves/data from an Xbox 360 to an Xbox One?

Microsoft's site says "No", that games are not backwards compatible, while other sites say "Yes". Minecraft was an example I ran across, but they may have been referring to game data and not the game itself. I'm a little confused. Any of you professional game-a-holics have any experience migrating from one platform to the other?

I just got the Xbox one and....... I don't like it.

Disclaimer: part of the problem is that I don't have good internet service up here.

There are some games that are online play only. Ie: Titan Fall.

When you buy a game, it down loads onto the hard drive. This can take up to 3 hrs. The system is not as user friendly as they show you.

I'm thinking of selling mine, FYI.

The safe bet is no. 360 and One have different CPU architecture, so physical media games will not be compatible. Digital downloads may run on both systems if the game developer makes a version for both. Odds are, that will apply to game saves too.

backwards compatibility and lack of games, are the reasons my brother-in-law, who's been an xbox user for years, went with the PS4.

Sounds like he's a bit younger. Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare is a pretty fun game. It's like Call of Duty online (but there's no story mode) but just cartoon violence etc.

I am not upgrading my XBox 360... in fact when One came out and went and bought a second 360.

I hear more gamers are going back to the PC.... I am betting that XBox one is going to be like Windows 8.... nobody likes it so they are going to have to keep what they tried to replace.

Whut he said. I've had my Xbox One for four months and I hate it. As Rel said, it is not user friendly. Simple tasks that used to be accomplished with the press of three or four buttons now take six or seven buttons. The microphone that came with the system is a POS. Takes a while to get used to the UI, it's like trying to navigate through Windows 8. I would save your money and stick with the 360, or switch to PS4, although it might be tough to convince your son.

I guess one of the coolest features is being able to watch TV through the xbox and use voice commands, but it's not practical. You're using up more electricity since you have to turn on your xbox AND cable box, and you end up yelling at your TV because the kinect doesn't understand what you're saying.

Good idea for learning to build shit, not the best idea for gaming.

Configure it to dual boot MacOS and Windows, thats a good learning experience

On the first count I concede and on the second I absolutely agree.

And on topic, I've been an Xbox guy from the beginning but will be moving on to Sony here shortly. The lack of Xbox One reverse compatibility sealed it for me.

Well he is pretty confused then cause ps4 isnt backwards compatible and also has no games.

I'm one of the dudes that went back to a PC for gaming instead of an Xbox One or PS4.

For $550 (including sales and rebates) I built a computer that I play games with AND use for all my media watching, Netflix, etc.

It sits in my entertainment center like any other home theater thing, I use a 360 controller to play games, and the games are way cheaper too. Added bonus I don't have to pay for Xbox Live to play online.

Better option for me, but definitely not for everybody

Steambox would be nice but IMO they missed on the pricing and the game library is gonna be lacking because there isn't a lot of Linux support for games yet.

I'm tempted to give SteamOS a shot though just for fun.

Both Xbox One and PS4 run on the x86 architecture. Neither are backwards compatible with their predecessors.

Rather than buy a PS4 or Xbox One I switched back to being a part of the PC master race instead of a console peasant.:laughing
