Y'all know about the Polaroid Cube Camera?

Cute little design for sure, lots Apple cues.

Nice to see Polaroid innovating. Only makes 5 min vids though - wonder if it will continually record or need to be reset after each 5min interval?

What exactly does "Weatherproof/water resistant" mean? They sell a waterproof case, presumably for when you want to actually immerse the unit.

Actually, I think I just answered my question. "Weatherproof" means it can get wet but can't actually be underwater.

FYI just popped on this. Small and cute and $117 with a helmet mount. Will let you know how I like it.

I dunno about GoPro replacement, but as an opportunity for creativity, that thing looks awesome. Built-in magnetic mount? Makes me wish I was into film-making.

"weatherproof" is a term that doesn't have any real meaning. It is used a lot in the garment world and means you'll stay dry for a while, maybe.

the 5 minute video and no SD card thing seem dumb to me and negate any interest I'd have in it.

These things look pretty neat. I love the small size and apparent ease of use.

Polaroid has a few other interesting "action sports" cameras out. This cube really isn't meant to be a competitor to GoPro, but their other ones are. They look A LOT like the Contour form factor, interestingly enough.

Yeah, I have no idea from whence you are coming RCB. The camera accepts micro SD cards up to 32 GB and the battery supports roughly 90 min of vid capture. There is no mention of 5 minute max length on vids. :dunno

Are you talking about an older model, or something?

The version currently sold doesn't seem to have those limitations.

From the second link in the OP.

"The Bad The only mount included is its built-in magnet. No microSD card is included for storage. Video quality is just OK considering the price. Video is split into 5-minute clips while recording."

So perhaps it doesn't come with a microSD card, but does take them. However, it says in that article the clips are split into 5 minute segments.

Interesting about the 5 min segments. Probably not an issue as long as it keeps recording. Still seems weird, though.

I bought some Polaroid brand batteries for my Nikon DSLR a couple months ago. While doing so, I asked the camera store what was up since they had just gone out of biz. He said another business bought the rights to the name.

FWIW, they're far superior to the Nikon batteries, so maybe that's indicative of their quality in general. Maybe not. YMMV.

If you were into filmmaking, you'd just wish that any of these cameras shot to a useful codec. :(

Colorful mounting options.

They need to make a silver one and call it the 'Pro,' version.
