Yosemite and DV in 2012

Not worried about getting in, just wanna have fun! Show me a good time, I'll follow you anywhere. :teeth

It sounds like you two are going to have a lovely time together. :love

Hotels are at Furnace Creek, Beatty, Ridgecrest.

The hot springs are nice, but I wouldn't make it the focus of your trip. The Racetrack, Ubehebe Crater, Scotties Castle, Rhyolite, Titus Canyon, Baswater, Mosaic Canyon, Charcoal Kilns, Skidoo, Stovepipe Dunes, Chloride Cliffs, Artists Drive and lots more to see.

I've been a bit brain dead on the matter but luckett presents many of the options that I would have put forth. This is a typical destination for a group of FJR riders about that time of year, though I missed last years run. There's a shitpot to see out there.

Furnace Wells is the fuel stop out there...cha-ching. There's a decent motel their as I recall, too.

The idea of spending some quality time in and around Saline Vly and DV is very appealing to me. April/May seems like an ideal time to do it. I think Luckett is right on. There is a lot to see there and many interesting places to ride to. Camping seems like the obvious choice....but I'm flexible and wouldn't say no to a motel in Beatty.

I've done Salline Vly when the main road was closed due to flash flooding and road wash outs. Even under those conditions, our group of about a dozen m/c's still made it through (but it was tough).

DV is a motorcyclist's paradise. Lots of roads (paved and dirt) to explore.

Oh, I gotta check out Titus Canyon...:thumbup:teeth

Rod - I'm easy regarding lodging or camping, and it sounds like there are good options for non-dirt riding...besides if I can ride dirt :laughing then I'm sure you can...we'll take it real nice & easy.

My only concern is length of trip - I'd like to suggest we try for a Fri-Mon 4day or Thurs-Mon as it give us the most options of utilizing the wknds.

WHAT ARE THE CONFIRMED DATES ? :ride

None yet...I understand you need advanced notice (as probably do many of us) but we're in the early stages of discussions and planning here, and it is teh Barf after all....:twofinger

Rod's the ringleader (and a good one I might add :thumbup) so when he feels we've got a date in hand that works for most folks he will make the call.

P.S. pls turn off your caps lock....HARD TO READ and it typically means your shouting online...:(

Definitely looking for input on the dates and duration right now! I think most of us will want to do more than 4 days (so much to see in DV), on the other hand someone could even do just 2 days by joining us as far as Carrizo and then heading home.

How about leaving early-ish on Saturday, April 14? That utilizes one full weekend for sure, allows 2-day participation on a Saturday and Sunday, and allows the die-hards to take off a full week and two weekends. I'm thinking 5 or 6 days for the "official" event (meaning the part I want to do :laughing), but others can of course do more or less.

Comments? Once we get this a little more defined I'll post up an announcement in Group Rides.

I'd be down for the Yosemite trip but I can pass on DV...

Watching this for dates and i might join in atleast for the first day or two if it's in yosemite.

OK cool! Looks like Yosemite will be a separate (and later) excursion.

Titus Canyon is really not for street tires - and it's one way, so that's pretty much a 3-4 day trip in itself.

:wtf

3-4 days?!? :rofl You could do it in less time if you were walking!

It's a well graded dirt road that's easily done on street tires if there are no snow drifts. You could ride it beginning to end in an hour if you don't stop for pictures.

It has very interesting geology and fossils. You should check it out sometime.

Don't let me encumber you from your snuggle time with Rod in the hot springs. I doubt I'll go on this trip as I like to get deeper into the desert backcountry than this group is going to be venturing. I'm just giving Rod the accurate 411 so he can plan out a nice trip for himself and his peeps.

If you handled clear creek ok, you should have no problem with most of the offroad stuff. The best stuff in DV is off pavement so go get your bike dirty.

Not for JUST there - I mean getting down there, going through and back!

It's kind of the other side of DV from the North Pass into Saline - so it does add some time if Saline is part of the equation.

Clearly, you are the superior being in all realms of knowledge and I am woefully inadequate to participate in any discussion where you are present. I withdraw myself from consideration for this trip or further discussion. It's all yours!

OK, he posted like a turd, but maybe he's got a point. I don't know either way. I like my pavement, and it needs to be baby-bottom smooth and within 15 miles of a Starbucks, but such is the life of a Ducati-owner.

And you--Stop posting like a turd, will ya? It seems like you have some good route info. Why don't you try de-thorning it and sharing it. Please? (That photo is terrific by the way. :thumbupIf I felt like picking up my bike 14 times in a day, I would try it on the Monster just for giggles.)

You two need to quit making me post like a mom. I just want to ride, drink beers and tell lies about how fast I am like everyone else.

Oh for crying out loud. :wtf

Folks, I'm going to Death Valley in April. The purpose of this thread is to figure out the best time and route, and to encourage others to join. If you have suggestions, whether you want to come or not, please post them. If you want to come, come. Just don't piss in my thread. Thank you.

Pashnit Tour Group headed to DV in March!

Tour is already full too, gonna be fun.

Yosemite never gets old.

Hey gang, we COULD follow the Pashnit Group like a pack of rabid Wild Barf Dogs!

That might add a whole new adventure to the Pashnit Tour Group! :rofl

Man this sounds awesome, but I can only imagine what work and school will have in store for me. This would sure be sweet. I am also tempted by all this talk of 'deep desert backcountry' luckett is speaking of.

If you have the time, just north of Death Valley is the Manzanar Internment Camp, pretty cool history.

And just north of that is Westgard Pass up to the Whitebark Pine Forest above 9000 ft!
