....Actually, yes, it was. Does he really dislike sportbikes that badly?

On a side note, the replacement parts for all these issues should be ready by next week, so I can go back to riding in my commute, cutting down on transit time, and saving gas and bridge toll fees.

He tried that shit with me couple of years ago, saying that my turn signals weren't legal, etc., :blah

Hey slapnuts, the late model GSXR's come stock with their blinkers built into the mirrors and rear tail section. Twat. :loser

He hates them so much, he gives warnings instead of tickets.

Wonder if a cop would ticket you if you had receipts for it all with you.

Like "Yeah, I didn't realize this, got a warning and ordered all the correct stuff. Here are the receipts and it should all be on in the next week or so". Wonder if that would cut it with most officers / deputies?

Depends on the cop?

The warning isn't "drive it until you get around to fix it." The warning is "drive it home and park it until you fix it."

If a cop tells you your vehicle is in an illegal condition and then lets you go you should count your blessings that he let you drive it home. If he stops you again you best have the violations all fixed or you won't be lucky twice.

How about... "Thank you Officer!"

Fix your ride. This is exactly why more and more Officer's don't give warnings.

I was pulled over a few weeks ago on my CL350 that I dragged out of the garage after a decade of storage. I was lit up 15 minutes after rolling away from the garage and the Officer ran down 4 items that were violations. He was nice enough to EXPLAIN everything that was violation and let me go. I thanked him, shook his hand and we parted ways.

I drove home, fixed the items I could and ordered parts for the other fixes (including getting a speedometer, talk about obvious). The parts are now on the bike and it is fully legal again. I plan to ride in the area that I know that officer patrols so that he can see I'm fully compliant. This as a thank you for not slapping me with all those tickets, fix it or otherwise. From my point of view this experience has been WIN-WIN, both sides get what they need/wanted and do so quite happily. If I didn't not follow my side of the agreement, this would not be the case.

Perhaps the OP should follow my example?

Just make sure it doesn't turn into a M4M

Heh, I was gonna say, if I really wanted to bitch on and on about the situation, I coulda gone to Missed Connections. :teeth

That's funny, it just came up in the HOV thread that a speedometer is not required.

technically illegal.

24004. No person shall operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles after notice by a peace officer, as defined in Section 830.1 or subdivision (a) of Section 830.2 of the Penal Code, that the vehicle is in an unsafe condition or is not equipped as required by this code, except as may be necessary to return the vehicle or combination of vehicles to the residence or place of business of the owner or driver or to a garage, until the vehicle and its equipment have been made to conform with the requirements of this code.

however, if it was me, ide probably kick you loose and thank you for making the effort to make your ride legal.

I'm a little confused as to why we would be told that, seeing as how you'd have to pay for the repairs AND the fixit fine anyway, if they choose to ticket you.
40610. (a) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), if, after an arrest, accident investigation, or other law enforcement action, it appears that a violation has occurred involving a registration, license, all-terrain vehicle safety certificate, or mechanical requirement of this code, and none of the disqualifying conditions set forth in subdivision (b) exist and the investigating officer decides to take enforcement action, the officer shall prepare, in triplicate, and the violator shall sign, a written notice containing the violator’s promise to correct the alleged violation and to deliver proof of correction of the violation to the issuing agency.

(2) If any person is arrested for a violation of Section 4454, and none of the disqualifying conditions set forth in subdivision (b) exist, the arresting officer shall prepare, in triplicate, and the violator shall sign, a written notice containing the violator's promise to correct the alleged violation and to deliver proof of correction of the violation to the issuing agency. In lieu of issuing a notice to correct violation pursuant to this section, the officer may issue a notice to appear, as specified in Section 40522.

(b) Pursuant to subdivision (a), a notice to correct violation shall be issued as provided in this section or a notice to appear shall be issued as provided in Section 40522, unless the officer finds any of the following:

(1) Evidence of fraud or persistent neglect.

(2) The violation presents an immediate safety hazard.

(3) The violator does not agree to, or cannot, promptly correct the violation.

(c) If any of the conditions set forth in subdivision (b) exist, the procedures specified in this section or Section 40522 are inapplicable, and the officer may take other appropriate enforcement action.

(d) Except as otherwise provided in subdivision (a), the notice to correct violation shall be on a form approved by the Judicial Council and, in addition to the owner’s or operator’s address and identifying information, shall contain an estimate of the reasonable time required for correction and proof of correction of the particular defect, not to exceed 30 days, or 90 days for the all-terrain vehicle safety certificate.

i'm curious about the exhaust issue? should it really be that quiet? pipes on sportbikes arent that loud, especially compared to those harleys. what do they do to those things to make them so damn loud and annoying anyway?

heh the exhaust quieter then the tire sound. Get some louder tires :laughing

That didn't sit right with me. The only time I hear tires are on lifted trucks with offroad tires. Even if my exhaust was as restrictive as possible, you'd still hear the engine (not the exhaust) over the tires.

In regards to the rear reflectors, Cycle Gear actually sells License Plate Screws w/ reflectors on them. Not sure if they're DOT approved, but DMV signed off on em.
