Got me a machine. Edumicate me. I tend to like lighter roasts.

Are you grinding your own beans or preground? Straight shots or frou frou drinks?

My all time favorite was a blend from Handsome Coffee Roasters. I ordered it once and they never carried the exact blend after that, as they change their offering frequently.

They hire pickets to pick only the coffee cherries that are ripe. They have them dried on site, then vacuum pack them and have them air freighted to L.A., where they roast the product.

None of their roasts are dark and their coffees tend towards sweet and sour, not bitter. I haven't found a local roaster I like as well, and I think the difference is how they source the beans.

Looks like they sell out of a café in the mission. I'll stop by there and pick up a bag of something:)

Though I haven't tried their beans at home yet, I really like the espresso at Coffee Bar (1890 Bryant St, at Mariposa in SF).

You must work near me!

Adam I get comped coffee sometimes. My favorite espresso is a roaster from santa Rosa. I'll try to grab you some.

mine *are* blue bottle coffee but I cannot really extract all the goodness of them at home. And I sometimes think they might be an overkill on the smell.

therefore I buy bolivian organic medium roastof the best (fair) quality I can find *and* that *IS* after all cheaper than the really famous brands. Works quite well.

I am a HUGE fan of Philtered Soul from Philz. It is a medium roast, but I've found it to make EXCELLENT espresso. I am a medium/light roast guy, as well. That said, their darker roasts make great espresso as well, but I love the sublte flavors in the Philtered Soul.

They do a good job of selling that in their blurb:drool
