Build Thread: 999S "4VSBK"

The pod filters are interesting, can hear what the injectors are doing - sounds like they give a little spritz of fuel after the fuel pump primes - kind of like spraying starter fluid in your intake

Almost sounds like an FI version of an accelerator pump.

Bravo, sir... BRAVO!

You made the 999 "desirable"! :thumbup

Thank you sir :thumbup

Finished up tacking the exhaust tabs today - off to the welder this week.

Once that's done will plan to do some test rides and then remove the aluminum parts to powdercoat and take the exhaust off to get wrapped.

Made a little bracket for the tail light / license plate, will get this powdercoated with the other aluminum bits:

Also picked up some aluminum rod to weld up an x-brace for the front mount - should reduce vibration and make it look a little more robust.

Are you going to wear asbestos soled boots? Exhaust may fry your feet....

I was all hard and aroused, then I saw the nasty clipon's.

Now I am disgruntled and turned off.

Left the top triple clamp and long lines on in case I switch to the high bars. It looked a bit too much like a Diavel with the higher bars and ride stance.

Good point... given the velocity of the exhaust at the outlet and considering airflow, I think the location of the rear sets / feet should be fine. My only concern is with extended idling, but I don't do much of that anyway :thumbup

Awfully critical of a bike you won't be riding.... :laughing

Just thinking about clip ons hurts his back :twofinger

It's purposely intended to have "character", it's going to be loud, rowdy, hot, uncomfortable, and stupidly over-powered. Highway winds will be a pain in the ass, oh and yea your back will hurt if the clip ons are on! Can't wait! :ride

Light and plate mounted...

Waiting on final welds to be finished, then some powdercoating and will be all done!

Chain is actually about 2-3 inches higher than the exhaust and sits about 1 inch behind the exit of the exhaust. The picture angle makes it look much closer. Additionally, there's still extra slack in the chain that will be adjusted out.

Now the sidestand... that's about 2 inches away from the exhaust, but sits 1/8th of an inch in the path of the exhaust flow. I will check to see how hot it actually gets while riding and make a shield and / or trim it.

Dropped off the parts to get powdercoated, finished up the exhaust in the meantime

Minor things / annoyances left: think I blew the LED / high beam fuse, need to source nuts for the sprocket / hub cover thing, bleed front brakes some more, bleed rear brakes.
