EBR closes, files for receivership

:laughing It's a bullshit story that originated with some blogger in Thailand and now a bunch of motorcycle online rags are running with it.

The auction for EBR's assets hasn't even occurred yet.

"The sale was scheduled for July 21 in Milwaukee, but we have learned it has been postponed for a bit longer for completion of some legal diligence."

the only thing that's worse than "business" is "bankruptcy/receivership" of a business

there may be an eventual upside here, just pretty hard to see it right now......

The intellectual property that Hero acquired related specifically to new bike design work commissioned by Hero, it wouldn't have had much value to anyone else.

The auction is now scheduled for August 5. Rumor control says that one bidder has already negotiated with key employees regarding employment contracts and is pretty serious about buying the rest of the operation.

My wild ass guess is that it's BRP/Rotax. They aready have a huge powersports dealership network in place with snowmobiles, PWCs, ATVs, the CanAm three wheelers, Evinrude outboards... but no motorcycles.

That might be a good outcome.

I could see it being Polaris.

FTFY.

That might be an even better outcome. Those guys have been on a roll.

it's done !!

the latest:

EBR assets sold to metals company for $2.25 million

".....The buyer was identified in court documents as Atlantic Metals LLC. Nothing else was disclosed about the buyer, other than they've agreed to acquire all of Erik Buell Racing's motorcycle manufacturing assets which includes machinery, tooling, motorcycle inventory, parts inventory, accounts receivable and intangible assets....."

chatter on the Buell Board is that purchaser is a Buell/EBR enthusiast who knows Erik and [kinda] knows into what he's entered.....

That seems disappointing.

2.25 million... kinda sounds like a free Project Bike aka the most expensive kind

i hope i'm wrong, i'd love to see buell finally have a stable business backing his ideas

".....Reached via text this afternoon, Erik Buell said he is working with the new owner on “how to roll out the story.” Pressed for details, Buell said, “He’ll tell his story his way and in his time schedule. As it should be.”

He’s a bike guy, though?

“Yes,” texts Buell
....."

Much better than I had feared. :cool

Well, yeah, but that article isn't terribly flattering or optimistic.

Buell has a couple of big things to overcome:

  • Produce a competitive product that will attract a large enough customer base
  • Convince the buying public that they'll be around next year

He's got a track record in the wrong direction on both counts. I hope the new CEO can help with these things and that Erik listens to input.

You gotta give Erik credit though. He's the Energizer Bunny of failed motorcycle business.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him (finally) succeed. :thumbup
