Merlin solid progress on the ride report! You may actually finish this thing before we go back!!

Looking forward to day 5 videos!! Hope you got the silt rut train wreck on video!!

DAY 5 - Scorpion Bay to San Ignacio
So GreenHornet was able to make it to Scorpion Bay via a man and a pick up truck late last night. I Camped at the beach with Dmitry and OaklandF4i and GreenHornet when he arrived. It was COLD, almost regretting that I had taken the smaller sleeping bag now. But nonetheless the camping was epic. Getting to camp under the stars on the beach and wake up to the sunrise is EPIC! I tried to take a bunch of picture of the sunrise. Be sure to check the video out I arrange all the picture I took into a sequence during sunrise.

So everyone comes down to the beach to visit us. It was a great day nice weather not all cloudy like last year. And it's time for another BEACH RIDE!!!

While everyone is here we take a group picture. The only one missing was LunchBox because his bike had blown up in Mulege.

So here we are HadesOmega Beach Cruise 2016! So as you know last year I kinda had a "run in" with a bird at the beach so I was trying to not mess with the wildlife this time!

Took a little cruise on the beach that's all. I tried to do a high speed run but I saw a bird and backed off haha. So this here is a kinda shark structure. I notice it is made of fiberglass I wonder what the story of this is? It was there last year too.

So after the morning shenanigans it was time to get underway. We split up into separate groups. The group I was in was OaklandF4i, Impish9090, 1962siia88, EricB, and Dmitry. The route was the same as last year. We were going to head north to the coast on a kind of graded dirt road. We'd stop at a fishing village along the way then follow the coastline for a while. Then ride through some MAJOR sandy sections and more dirt highways eventually emerging on the tarmac and head to San Ignacio.

So I was riding along and one thing about today is its WARM and because of that its DUSTY! So I'm anyway I'm riding along and poof it's a brown out I can't see anything. We had hit a deep patch of silt and everyone in front of me went down like dominos. Luckily I had slowed down and stopped before I plowed anyway and alerted everyone else to slow down and stop. If you watch the video I'm looking into a cloud of smoke, I looked back for a few second and turn my head straight again and you see everyone's bikes at naptime. Lasty year we didn't have to worry about dust or silt so much because it actually was raining a bit. =/
SAM_3514-X2.jpg

SAM_3515-X2.jpg

The next section was one of my favorite last year but I had a bad crash so after a little too much excitement I decide to slow down. This next section was a combination of deep sand and sand flats. Sand flats that turn into mud when it rains. The Shinko 805s are not doing so hot on this stuff from what I've noticed. To make things worse there are pockets of soft sand when you hit them you sink in and loose traction.

Go Merlin! Looking forward to the next video!! I love that you got me with the clown music trying to start my bike!! :laughing At that point in the trip I had a golf ball sized lump on my shin from bashing my leg into the right peg every time I started the bike. I was not giving it the necessary gusto because my shin hurt. I'm hoping to find a solution to this issue for this trip because it took several months for that lump to go down. :thumbdown

Great work getting this report done!!

Ouch yeah haha I was watching the video and you were there kicking forever. I didn't even remember it I just caught it on video haha. But yeah my first DR650 was a kickstart and I remember the misery of having to kick that bike when your tired from picking it up and in an awkward place.

More of the same terrain flats and sandy sections. Then we arrive at a fishing village. We were greeted by the children and hooked them up with some moto stickers.

We are around the beginning of the water section in this map

SAM_3531-X2.jpg

SAM_3532-X2.jpg

The road ahead was more of the same flat hard packed stuff and occasional sand. But this time there was DEEP sand, the kind that likes to make the bike wander everywhere.
198-XL.jpg

Now to keep the DR stable on this stuff I need to be going like 30-50 mph, 30+ I guess. So I'm riding along and the bike is rocking all over the place, its like the most nervous feeling in the world surfing the bike over this shit. Almost feels like splitting lanes. Then 1962siia88 is like 30feet in front of me and he SUDDENLY stops and I come so close to creaming him. I managed to get the bike to veer to the right seconds before, if not I'd have hit him.

The rest of the ride was more of the same dirt goodness. Then we got to a kinda graded road and we could really let it rip. In this video I'm going like 53MPH already and Dmity blows right past me.

At the end of the straight we stopped to regroup. Look at all these tiny little desert flowers! It's like we're on a another planet.

Nothing too exciting the rest of the way. More highspeed dirt riding. OaklandF4i gets bored and decides to ride the side road to spice it up a bit. You'll see this in the VLOG. Then we get to the section where there is a kinda salty wetlands with a very hard packed and whoopy road. After that it's the pavement and some twisties to our home for the night San Ignacio.

After lunch we headed to Rice and Beans where we stopped on the way to Mulege for lunch. This is where we were staying tonight. We ran into these two riders I think from Canada. One of them was riding a Honda Varadero, an adventure bike that Honda never released in the US. Kinda reminds me of the Honda Transalp. Imagine riding these beasts around here.
