HadesOmega's BARF Baja 2016 Ride Report

Dude!! Awesome!! TMI on the feet, but dang Merlin you need to get some real boots before we leave if thats how your feet look at the end of the day. My feet were only wet when I submerged them by stalling in a deep water crossing. Normal water crossings they stay dry as a bone!

Only one more day to go and you already posted two of those vids, so I'd say OaklandF4i should get some pink streamers for saying you wouldn't finish this thread before we left! :laughing

HAHA yes pink streamers.

The ride report is nearly done all the videos are done just gotta finish it up, I'm not going to make vids of the slab to San Borja because that ride was kinda meh. All I remember is the seafood was the bomb! :party:party

I got some Comp5 dirtbiking boots. Basically the full size version of the shorty ones I had last year. I liked them so much I stuck with fox also I don't have to wear those shin and knee guards anymore so I can get my gear on everyday more easily :) The shorties were ok in the water hopefully these are better! I think nomatter what if you do balls deep watercrossings your gonna get wet feet =/

Day 6
Here we are the final day of riding. Todays festivities includes a slab ride through Guerrero Negro and back to BOLA. However unlike last year wear we took the slab all the way there we were going to head to Mision de San Borja through some excellent desert roads.

So far we have 2 bikes down LunchBox and GreenHornet. Hopefully we can get these one back to BOLA.
SAM_3581-XL.jpg

Hmm looks like I took a picture of these so I can check my gas mileage. I get all messed up when I have to do things metric like in Japan. I just have them pump the gas and I give them the pesos. MATH TIME!
1 liter = 0.2643 gallons
I pumped 15.879 liters
15.879 liters X 0.2643 gallon = 4.195 gallons
I rode 159.9 miles on that tank so
159.9miles/4.195gal = 38.12 MPG
38MPG hmm that's not too bad for the Cactus Puncher considers we rode a lot of dirt the day before and there was sand. Usually the Cactus Puncher gets 45mpg so sounds bout right :)
0129160932-XL.jpg

0129160932a-XL.jpg

So after I got gas we headed to Guerrero Negro. First we needed to pass by a military checkpoint that separates Baja Norte from Baja Sur. That wasn't very eventful no drama. Afterwards we rode the slab to Guerrero Negro which is about the halfway point. It was uneventful but very scenic ride. One of those times I'm glad I got my windscreen :)

Here we are at Guerrero Negro. If you look at the map we ride kinda to the end of the town to the west. We stopped by the bank to get some pesos. Then find a place to have lunch.
208-XL.jpg

We find this dope restaurant Malarrimo. They have some GREAT seafood! ZOMG it was so yummy can't wait to go back there. :thumbup Also if you don't know Guerrero Negro is where you can go whale watching. They provide tours here, next to the restaurant was a little store and office. I got some souvenirs here :) We weren't the only riders dining here also.

On the road again.
211-XL.jpg

So its time to gas up again. about 76.8 miles from Guerrero Negro.
0129161316-X2.jpg

0129161316a-X2.jpg

MPG check again all slab!
1.99gallons
76.8miles
76.8miles / 1.99 gallons = 38.59 MPG
Hrm looks like I got less MPG riding on the slab :wtf

Improvised bearing cover, notice 3 of the 5 lugs are missing and there are 2 different kinds of nuts. HAHA!

So we have finally made it to the dirt the fun begins! So before the fun begins there's bad news. We make it to the dirt section but we are short one rider. We're hanging out waiting for Dmitry to show up and this is what we eventually see.
SAM_3600-X2.jpg

So another KTM bites the dust. Dmitry pulls up in this pick up truck with his bike on the bed. Somewhere from the last stop his bike had catastrophic engine failure. Luckily he enlisted the aid of an amigo with a pickup truck. He was able to get the bike back to BOLA.

This is a ride me, 1962siia88, Impish9090, and EricB did on the last day of the BARF Baja ride earlier this year. It was an epic ride because it was a nice road to the Mission of San Borja. Nothing too difficult nothing too easy and totally scenic. I missed out last year because I wound up slabbing it back the whole way to BOLA because I had a bad crash that left the DR with a really bent handle bar and I was pretty beat up.

Ok from San Borja is the final dirt section of BARF Baja 2016. I was riding with 1962siia88, Impish9090, and EricB. This last section was awesome. Like the last section going up to the mission it wasn't too tough and it wasn't too easy. Lots of dirt, sand, rocks, climbs, and dips. What was great is I roade with 1966siaa88 the whole way like in the last section and I was able to ride right next to him comfortably. I always enjoy riding with him because our skill levels are close. It was a nice relaxing ride while still going at a good pace. Also riding next to him kept me from getting blasted with all the dust the XR650R was kicking up. Got some good video of it also.

Starting point Mission de San Borja
