2019 - 2026 Wednesday Night Drags Sonoma

Sounds like frustrating racing conditions. I guess I'll have to wait till next year to test the new motor and controller combo out =/

Congrats on 2nd place that Doug is a tough customer =P and congrats on Sean for the win.

Weather was not fun. If it doesn't rain next Wednesday but not looking good so far. There will be the test n tune Saturday the 12th but it's pricey, $80 for all day. Here is the finals picture.

Bad news, guys. No racing tomorrow. (11/9/22)
Not sure why (weather?) but my daughter asked me to put the word out early to you guys. It would be a bummer to drive all that way for nothing.

Thank for posting. They said because of heavy rains today they are cancelling Wednesday night races. I suspected it would happen. They knew there was a chance of rain last week, that is why they stopped the points last week and ran the King of the Track last week also. If it stays dry there will test n tune on Saturday and a last-minute Bracket drags on Sunday.

You're talking to a guy running a Sur Ron and making it work. Merlin is the biggest advocate for the "Run what you brung" crowd we have around here.:laughing

I don't understand why Merlin isn't on their payroll. He promotes those bikes more than the manufacturer does. #admirable
 
Yep, so far there is no Wednesday night drags scheduled for 2024. Gotta love Sonoma Raceway. They know Sacramento Raceway closed down at the end of last year and now they give the drag racing crowd the middle finger. They make more money renting out the road course and so that is what they are doing. The drift section is gone now also. The Drag strip Manager is trying to get the Corporate heads to give us a few days, but he was expecting an answer by the end of January, no word and we are in the middle of February now. The writing has been on the wall for the last few years with last minute cancellations and reduced racing hours. Can only hope for now but not looking good. Only other options for 1/4 mile racing is Redding and Famoso (Bakersfield) which are both LONG drives and a hotel room away.

This is part of the reason I stopped reporting after each event last year. Sonoma would not let you take/post pictures without their approval, yet the pictures were getting taken for free. They did not support those who were supporting them, let alone the free advertisement they were getting.

That is the suck.

They may recognize BARF by the way. Some staf has retired so don't know for sure. It might be worth asking if you could post your race reports because it was attracting others to come out. ;)

My daughter works there and runs the Wednesday drag program. Anyone that's handed the cute blonde girl their entrance fee has met her.
She is actively lobbying for them to roll back that archaic policy.
There's a lot more I can't say right now about what's going on, but it's not good.
The track loses money on the Wednesday night program....always has. Ironically, they started back in the 70's (Thursday nights?) as a public service to help get racing off the street. It was never intended to generate any income, just public goodwill.... and perhaps some local positive PR
It seems they want to kill off the program while saying "Hey, we tried. Entry numbers kept going down".....that's because entry fees will continue to go up.
All part of their plan.
