My Year In Sport as promised. I passed the arbitrary goals of 8k miles and 600hrs this weekend. It's been kinda nuts to devote so much of my life to this hobby. But with how I feel physically and mentally and how Leadville and other races went, I'm pretty stoked about it. I dont know if I have another insane year in me. But I am already signed up for 1 race a month through April

Other random bits...
My coach has me on a hypertrophy block rn. So I've been actually lifting at a 24HrFitness. It feels so weird being a gym bro twice a week

. I'm already seeing the newb gains and it's kinda fun. My sets are 3x8. Deadlift is now over bodyweight at 155#. Squat is a lot deeper and more comfortable at 115#. Single leg squat has shown how weak my left leg is. And hip thrusts are adding to my booty.
I also did another local MTB race 2 weekends ago. This one featured the hardest trail I've ever ridden, complete with rock garden descents with drops. Because of my newb-ness in MTB, I did a lot of recon and practiced the hard segment 4x before the race. The first attempt of that segment took over 30min to descend because of too much pussing-out. By the end of my practice runs, I had it down to 7:19. In the race, I managed a 6:32 and wasn't losing time to the people I was racing with. Overall, I finished the 3 lap 24mile race in 2hr 10min and got 5th/22 in class and 17th/71 overall. I was racing with a few guys the entire time and managed to pass 3 on the final lap. I passed the last one within the last 500ft of the final climb, about 1/4mile from the finish. I felt him kick over the top to close the small gap, so I opened my sprint early to destroy him mentally

and fully dropped him. It really felt like a race out there. So much fun.
One thing that really helped with the MTB race and the rock garden - I got my fork re-valved. Coming from moto racing, it was obvious the stock Fox damping curve was atrocious. It had no support for low speed stuff like pedal bob and was very harsh for high speed hits. The re-vavle has helped so much with grip and confidence. The guy that I found in SD to do it used to do suspension with Factory KTM SX/MX. So I know that he knows his shit. And it's cool to see the crossover between MX and MTB.
