What a waste of our money! It will never be used except for a very view of the population. And will require substantial amounts of money to keep it running.

I hope we get someone with some common sense into California government that will pull all funding from the project and stop wasting our hard earned tax dollars.
I dug the dry humor they put on the map; "Green means ready for use". Find the green...

I believe the original idea was to create a high speed link between LA and SF for God only knows why. I think it had something to do with Di Fi's husband's business :dunno

Couple jobs back they wanted to build an big electric winch that would slide back and forth on I-beams. It was a huge project, millions spent, blah blah blah, long nights, then come to find out they made it so big that there were only a few ships in world it would fit. Oops, but eventually got it on one and somehow either the wrong material was spec'ed, or whatever, but the I-beam that it rolled on started yielding so badly that you didn't even have to look down it to see it. Eventually we had to take it back and buy the customer a replacement from the competitor product we were trying to compete with. Ended up giving it away to an employee in a raffle at a xmas party and buying it back for $100 in what seemed like some sort of weird tax writeoff scam. That was our private-business version of the high speed rail project.

And Newsome’s political ambitions.

I think Newsome is the absolute worst governor California has ever had.

Reagan, sold our old growth redwoods to the Japanese for $1.00 per tree

High Speed Rail was 100% of my work for 4-5 months about 6 years ago. Regardless of my opinion on the project, as a contractor, you don't turn down guaranteed billable hours for that 'long' period of time.

I am so sorry but it's not that I don't believe you. What makes him the worst CA Governor? He is a Democrat, right?

OK one of the worst days at work. I look forward to not having to answer to people half my age.
Or even my age for that matter.

Deukmejian and Wilson weren't exactly great governors either. Schwarzenegger was ok. Jerry Brown was probably the best governor we've had in the last few decades.

Went to Subway today for lunch. (Don't judge, I had a really good coupon). The kid making my sammich liked my shirt (It's my Nicky Hayden Ducati 09 test bike. The one with the American flag fairings.) I asked if he rides. He says no but I want to. He asked if I had any advice. I told him regardless if he's financially ready to buy a bike, take the MSF course or whatever the fuck it's called these days. Get your license so when you're ready to buy, you've already that out of the way. On top of lower insurance and skipping the riding test at the DMV.

He asks how long I've been riding. I had to do the math really quick. I started at 21, I'm 38 now, so 17 years. He says daannng, you look really young. Well aren't you the nicest person. :laughing

At first he forgot to apply the coupon and the price was 12.99 for a footlong. Then he applied it down to 7.99 which is not bad considering the '5 dollar footlong' used to the standard for a long time. Holy fuck, there's no sandwich at Subway worth 13 dollars. My local sandwich spot that makes high quality sandwiches ranges 13-15 bucks and these are sandwiches I'd put up against any hoity toity pinky up sandwich restaurant. I understand inflation but Subway is just slightly better than a sandwich I make at midnight after 5 beers.

But then I thought In n Out's prices haven't skyrocketed in the past 20ish years. If they can keep their prices down while also paying their employees considerably better than other fast food places, why can't they do the same? What does In n Out know that they don't? This is why I hate these In n Out/Five Guys comparisons. Even if you say Five Guys is better, how much does a burger there cost? If you think it's better, it fuckin better be. It costs like twice the price.

On that tangent, I've noticed The Habit has backed their prices down. Or rather, some of the extra ingredients aren't additional charges anymore. They're an above average fast food burger but the standard burger is just bun and patty. It used to be like, you want chesse? Dollar. You want lettuce? 50 cents. You want pickle? 50 cents. All of the sudden your 8 dollar burger is now 12 dollars because you added stuff onto it you just get for free at most places. Could be location specific, I just noticed that change at my local Habit.

Another tangent, the Subway kid thinking I look young reminds me of this girl I dated briefly. Well, I wouldn't call it dating, more friends with benefits. Anyway... We didn't to talking age until the 3rd or 4th 'date'. I'm not stupid, why would I ask a woman her age? We were just having a conversation and TV or movies or something we liked in high school. We were talking about the same movies. She's like wait... how old are you again? I think I was 33 at the time. Turns out she was only 1 or 2 years older than me. She says ohh... you look a lot younger. And this was at a time before I grew my beard out. Shortly after that, she ghosted me.

I think maybe she was into younger guys and assumed I was. :laughing

They’ve done profitability studies that show raising prices does not increase profits; but decreasing employee turnover does. So In n Out uses a model of paying higher wages with less per item profit actually increases the year end bottom line. Now I need to find the article with In n Out’s CEO.

Been a while since I visited this thread, read backwards a bit. My thoughts may seem random and out of place, but...

If April showers, bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims!

Gavin Newsome is everything that is wrong with American politicians.

Someone(s) should sponsor Nate so he can entertain half the forum with his riding exploits.

The cartographer was a subtle soul, green is go. Ha!

Oh, and stop f'ing the cats!
