2011 Cadillac CTS-V Stolen 8.5.26

Oakland is a useless city.
That’s a strong statement. Might want to dial that back a notch or ten. We have plenty of folks from Oakland on this forum.

My 1987 4Runner was stolen from the Home Depot in Campbell in 1999 - I was in the store less than 10mins and then it was gone

I called Campbell PD and by the time they showed up to take the report my vehicle was either already in Oakland or close to it.

I had my briefcase inside w/ my business cards and someone called me stating they found it on their front lawn - My father & I went that evening and got it back.

Oakland PD did find my vehicle and it was stripped - Motor, front end sheet metal and interior.

I had always wondered if I was targeted because the vehicle had about 185k miles on it but I had a new Toyota short block put in by the dealer a few months before.

I loved that 4Runner, I even drove it once all the way down to Guadalajara, MX then over to Puerto Vallarta and back to San Jose

I got carjacked in Oakland more than 30 years ago. I was ordered to drive. I almost decided to crash into a hwy wall as fast as I could go.

This was before the Oakland fires. I'm sure there are good people and good places there, I've seen it once since. I might not have it in me once more.

Budman I know how you feel. Similar story, different coast.

Several years ago back I was doing long distance hiking with my past husband. Took two vehicles and a small trailer handmade into a camper from our home in NC. Parked in the long term parking in Damascus, VA. He told the local police to keep an eye on it and when we would be back. On Friday, when we returned, both the truck and the camper were not there. Next stop, police department. They were kind enough to tell us that the truck was unhooked from the camper and taken on Wednesday night. The camper was taken on Thursday night. They also told us that we would never see the camper again because it was down on the river being used as a hunting camper. A couple of months later there was a huge news story about the chief of Police and the police department were under arrest for dealing drugs, prostitution ring and .... vehicle theft! They did spend time in jail but not enough!

I was born there. I am not offended in the slightest. It’s a shame that Oakland has become a point of reference for pretty much everyone elsewhere in the country as to why living in the Bay Area or California in general is a terrible thing.
