Favorite Corners

T1 at Laguna can be a big pucker moment at full chat. I initially learned *the line* on an FZR400. Then many years later I rode an S1000rr thru T1 and it was quite a different experience.

For sure it takes a minute to be able to hold the throttle WFO.

Which for some reason now has me appreciating T2 at Willow Springs. The longest knee buried on the ground race track turn I can think of. Kind of fun.

T1 at Seca is really a double apex turn. I went through there as if it were single apex.

I think you are thinking of T-2.

T-1 is the slight leftie coming over the hill on the straight away.

Just one corner? That's hard. Easy to name a section, but not one. I assume this is just public roads.

For me single corners would lead me to a long, sweeping corner where I'm leaned over for an extended period of time, there's good pavement, and good visibility forward. One pick would be on 299 about ~10 miles west of Willow Creek heading east, as you go up before the Vista Point, looong right hander. It's so fun adjusting lean and speed, pushing a little harder once you get comfortable, relaxing in the moment without thinking of braking for the next turn., because you're in the corner for so long.

To me very much like a long point break wave where you are on it for five, 10, 15 seconds, vs. a closeout.

Funny that the first thing that came to mind was the exit off the bridge from San Francisco to Treasure Island. But the one that was on the left and is now gone.

During the time I was teaching at MotoGuild I took that exit so many times—hard sharp left up the hill that you could take as fast as you dared. But one bitch of a day in the perfectly wrong place was a full-size Caltrans yellow trashcan black lid. I don’t remember how it all went down but I did not go down—rather carried on with the customary white-faced pucker followed by belly laughs and curses.

Anyway that bitch lid ruined that turn for me forever and I’m glad the whole exit is gone 😆
Is that turnoff really gone for good? I just assumed they were still working on it after 10 years, but they would rebuild it eventually...

Favorite Corners? Easy. Highway 1's "13 Corners."
If you know, you know.
Is that the same section I mentioned in my later comment, just north of Dogtown? If so, I've been riding it for years and never knew it had a name :(

I ride several roads very frequently. Over time I've developed a fondness for certain corners. There are some that I absolutely adore. I get a little disappointed when I can't go through a particular corner if there's traffic impeding my flow. Anyone have a favorite corner(s)?

:thumbup

I have some corners that I try to make a pilgrimage to as often as possible … these daze those corners tend to be the crux hairpins on climbs up to my favorite watchtowers:

must be my favorite corner, cuz I got a ton of pics of it. :laughing

anyway … traffic in this turn is never apparently an issue.

my fav turn when I was a club racer was Turn 8 at Willow Springs, cuz on my 30 hp race bike, I could hold it wfo when I was doing it right, which I only sometimes had the guts to do. :facepalm

My thoughts turned a different direction with this title, "Favorite Corners"
My time on bicycles, wandering out into Suisun Valley, to Rockville Corners, on a bit further, Mankas Corners,
then motos hit, faster, and more & more corners,
Thompsons Corners, waisted days & waisted nites, so much my drinkin' history there.
Moskowite Corners aka, (Posers)
All the way out to Four Corners, bigger scale, not blocks, but states, , ,

Turn 8 is no joke for sure. Takes a while to feel the juice to really cut it loose. Doing it in the dark.. way crazy fun..! Fun?? :laughing

The Panoramic Hwy has some really instructive corners. I may have ridden it from the Alpine Club to Stinson 1000s of times since 1967, and it continues to teach me.

Stage Road is another example of a Teaching Road, even it's notorious blind spots will keep you honest.

All of Monitor Pass, East to West. Tight turns going up. Smooth sweepers after the top. Finish with fun downhill medium sweepers to Hwy 4.

Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass. The uphill hair pins leading to the jump.
Ebbetts will punish the arrogant. Love it.
