Best Shotgun for Home Defense?

I really need to get something for HD when I have the money, right now the only firearm I own is the AR-15, which would probably be enough to scare someone off by just pointing it at them, still far from ideal for HD even with hollow tips.

With a 16 inch barrel and quality defensive ammo an AR is an excellent HD weapon. So maybe you need a bullet button on it.../shrug. You've got 10 shots or 30 if you managed to snag preban mags. With 30 I would never worry about reloading in an HD situation. 10 out of a rifle should be fine too, it's not like you're going to reload a shotgun all that fast.
 
And before you think it, .223/5.56 defensive ammo is not going to penetrate walls any more than a 9mm HP or buckshot. You're not going to use green tips in there.

If you got past both dogs, I imagine you also found any HD tools and are done raping me as well.
 
Just don't be the dipshit I saw at the range with high cap Magpuls who said he got them before the ban.

Mine is as compact as is legal in cali, I was very careful when building it to make sure I didn't cross any lines.
I know you said it wouldn't penetrate more but i still think my biggest worry would be killing a neighbor or something with the AR. and I have a whole stash of 30 round Pmags :teeth
 
I wouldn't use your AR with 30 round pmags for self defense. If I'm not mistaken the pmag was made after the ban so there's no legal way you could have one, unless you're in the service or a cop. So if you shot someone you get to either perjure yourself or submit your collection of felonies as evidence.

oh the 30 rounders stay away unless im going to private property or private function. just not worth it. i keep the ten rounder handy at all times.

No worries about a missed shot going into a neighbors wall? That's my fear, should I let loose with a .45 round and it goes through one of my living room windows and lands in my next door neighbors babies head I would feel crappy. This is why my choice for me is 12 gauge w/#8 shot. Nice .45 btw, gave me a slight tingle in my pubes area.
