MOTOGP 2012 Round 1 : Doha, Qatar. 4/5-4/8 2012

- Marquez wasnt fully clear (his rear about in line w/ Luthi's front as seen from onboard) and pushing Luthi onto the curbing was a bit mean... but Luthi is stupid for not braking that little bit extra to let him behind Marquez to enter the corner. those curbs apparently have more grip than the asphalt so he could have braked perfectly fine and its not like he was running out of curbing. Luthi's lame attempt to stay side-by-side ruined his podium..

This. Marquez had the line , I didn't see anything unfair about that pass. Racers gonna race.

I wish speed had shown so of the dicing between Hayden, Bradl and Bautista.

Me too.

Actually, I really want to see the onboard footage of all four bikes involved in that dice, in particular with Hayden's who led that train, found himself behind it, and then back to the front of it by the checkered flag.

Oh, what's the word on Karel pulling in? Haven't debriefed myself yet.

Nevermind, just read their PR. Front brake problems which is still pending conclusive result on the culprit.

I asked him via text what happened since our shitty coverage didn't show or say anything and we barely heard his interview before they joined the "world call".

He said that he was unlucky, the brakes got soft then strong, a few times. Then soft, so he couldn't make it out of the corner. Then went back out and it wasn't good, so he went ot the box. He said it was scary going back out not knowing if they'd work at 340km/h. They weren't sure if the rotor failed or the master cylinder...

On Speed, WTF was that twitter shit in the corner. Man that was pissing me off :rant

Yeah, that's more or less what their PR said. Telemetry confirmed the inconsistent braking, but nobody knew what caused it. PR said they shipped their system back to Brembo for analysis.

Indeed, what would a Rossi fan do? When faced with hardship? Well, the answer is surely clear. Jump Ship.

And Carmello Ezpoleta in all his genius has desiged an out for you. In the form of Lous Rossi.

I didn't see this followed up upon, but for the first round of France vs. Italy:

Louis Rossi, 9th place
Valentino Rossi, 10th place

Rossi v. Rossi, 2012!

SpeedTV has had crappy MotoGP coverage for years. Nothing new here.

You can't expect to slice, dice and squeeze 90 minutes of interviews, racing action and commercials into a 60 minute time slot without gutting the content.

MM should get docked 30 seconds. That was weak. You can't leave the guy with no where to go, it's just not how it's done.

Rossi is done.

I think Pedrosa and Lorenzo moved out on and didn't leave Stoner room, when he passed. Different strokes?

I was shocked that Stoner said it was all pumpy-poo that killed his time. I thought I saw some tire stuff. What-e-var. He still may be the fastest guy out there, so he needs to manage his tires and stop pumping off.

Dani looked like Dani. The Three Amigos are just a step ahead, again.

I missed Marco S.

Do you REALLY expect them to cut 30 minutes of NASCAR?

I mean, there are factory tours of John Deere or Kenworth to show.

How on earth can you NOT show 6 continuous hours of car auctions?

Sheesh, you Motogp fans want too much when you're expecting 90 minutes of coverage.

I pay extra for SPEED. They need to quit with the commercial breaks:thumbdown

:rofl

We ponied up for the MotoGP video feed. Plug the laptop into the TV, and get live high-def race coverage with no commercials.

If the AMA offered a video package for Supercross, Motocross, and roadracing, we'd ditch Speed altogether.

Well, since we are trying to turn this completely into the "Speed TV" thread, I will chime in with a :thumbup

The MotoGP site is worth every dime, as far as I am concerned. You see every warm-up, race, etc., with zero commercials. AND between current races, you can watch all the old races. It's great! I fall asleep watching Doohan or someone kicking butt, all the time. Yes, I am nuts. :laughing

u kno, i agree w/ u here. but in writing my reply and looking for evidence of the tires going off... i cant really find anything good. the data still points either way.

last year, since Bridgestone hadnt yet made tires that everyone agrees will fall off, ud think that laptimes towards the end of the race would be pretty close to the riders' personal bests. they were... around 0.8-0.9 sec off for the same top3 riders. not bad for being on worn tires w/ a light load of fuel.

however, this year, Lorenzo and Pedrosa's last laps were 0.3 off their personal bests while Stoners was 2.1 off. those top 2 were ridiculous... complaining all weekend about the tires going off then posting those times. obviously thats y Lorenzo won the race... all of his laps were 1:56.xx where as Stoner went 1:55->1:56->1:57.

so which is it? did Stoner's choice to eliminate chatter by reducing TC wear his tires more (than Pedrosa's), or did his arm pump stop him from being able to slide and still go fast? Dani's tires werent showing the same signs of wear as Stoner's and he was just as consistent as Jorge. :dunno

If F1, AMA, and WSBK had packages that let me watch everything i do now, id drop Speed.

wait.... no the fuck i wouldnt. like hell im paying 10$/mon to watch F1, then 10$ more to watch AMA Supercross, then 10$ more to watch AMA RR, then another 10$ to watch WSBK. im currently happy w/ my 8$/mon Speed package in addition to the $10/mon GP subscription. :laughing

well, I, too, am seriously considering the MotoGP annual pass

what did it for me was all the new 2012 functionality enhancements discussed above, which make MotoGP essentially a TiVo-style portal

finally!!

Very tough to tell, because Stoner really does slide the bike a lot. And remember that he passed both of them to gain over two seconds on them. I think he just used up the tires, early. It's his style to get a big lead. But, if he can learn that a .8 second advantage is good enough, then he might make it till the end. Lorenzo is great at wear management. While, Dani, I am not sure it isn't just size. Look at his start, again: Third row to first into the corner. Unbelievable, really. The three of them are different from the rest of the field.
