I recently became a father and I hope my son never rides...

My mother wanted to get a bike and I've been trying my hardest to talk her out of it...

My sister bought a bike so I broke it, she had to sell it...

My friend thinks it's a great gas saver and chick magnet, I don't want him to ride...

And I ride till I die

DONT have a child

I saw a forum goer make a really bad BARF thread after recently having one .

It's called hypocrisy. We all do it; we just don't all advertise the fact.

Your loss.

Riding with my kids (son is 18, riding since 2-1/2. daughter is 15, riding since 7) is a great way to spend time together. When my son was born I had mostly street bikes & 1 dirt bike. Every weekend was either a road race or sport riding in the Sierras. Since then it has changed to mostly dirt bikes and a camper.

One of the things you will run into is there are ages where it is almost impossible to communicate with your kids. Time out riding (bicycles, dirt bikes, whatever) is one of the best ways to stay current with your kids.

I've had lots of people ask me to teach how to ride and I basically just try and talk them out of it

I already have 3 kids....and it seems like all they want me to do it spend time working on them and buying them new tires, gas, and brake pads. They are so needy

Don't worry. By the time your son becomes an adult, motorcycles will become illegal in California. In the meantime, tell your friend to get a scooter. He'll bag more chicks that way. Just remind him not to get them pregnant..! :thumbup

Motorcycles have been a mental mind saver and stress reliever, my dad and I didn't always get along but I will always thank him for getting me my first bike at 13, and I will do the same for my son when I can financial afford it, so he will probably get himself one before I do........

Odd. I have an 11 month old and can't wait for him to turn 3 or 4 so we can get dirt bikes for the family :rofl

then never teach your son how to ride a bicycle. The joy of riding 2-wheels becomes a soul-penetrating, world-wide, and life-long passion. If you haven't been on a bicycle in awhile, do it. Borrow someone's if you don't have one and ride it around the neighborhood.

It's hard to put into words, but if I were to put a single word to a gyroscopic 2-wheel experience, (motorcycle, scooter, bicycle) it would be "Free." You just feel free. I feel that way when I'm on my motorcycle or my bicycle. I would never take that feeling away from my kid.

Huh. I actually taught my mom how to ride a motorcycle years ago. Hope yours is as smart and cool as my mom, and discovers the joys of riding for herself.
And if you were my brother, and actually broke my bike trying to force me away from riding... I'd shank you like a prison convict. :|

You have people who want to ride that you care about, then send them to MSF, make sure they get gear, and be there to mentor them as they learn. If your skills are as low as your selfishness levels are high, then find them a skilled mentor... and let them make their own decisions on what they want to do with their lives.

God you really suck as a brother. Mine actually buys me Craftsman tools and rolling tool boxes for Christmas and birthday presents, and brings my nieces out to watch me race.

Now that is pure win right there!! :thumbup
