DON'T get a motorcycle

My sister bought a bike so I broke it, she had to sell it...

I'm confused. Why would someone broadcast to an enormous motorcycle community that they're an insufferable manipulator? You think motorcycle riders are gonna approve of damaging someone else's bike out of selfishness?

Weak, bro. :|

Don't ever fuck with someone's bike. That's such a shitty thing to do.

Yes, because none of those people had any sense or independence, they just marched off to their doom. :facepalm

You're incorrectly assuming that it's okay to force people into not making their own sound decisions as individuals.

yup I broke my sisters bike, and I don't regret it, and I'm sure her two kids don't either.

And listen, I'm not "fucking" with just anyones bikes just to be an ass. I did what I thought was best for my sister.

I offer to help people all the time, on and off of this forum, with their bikes. I'm always excited to learn and teach about these amazing bikes we have. And I completely agree about the freedom we all get from getting on one. But I don't want to risk loosing the ones I love.

Under testing of endurance, Factory level Motocross Racers have shown to be the best conditioned people on the planet....
That's what riding a Motorcycle can do for Ya.

Motorcycle riders (that know how to ride, vs just operate a bike) drive better, than non-Motorcycle riders....

You gonna raise your kid in a bomb shelter his whole life so he doesn't learn about the dangers of alcohol and maryjewwana?

I know what you're going through since my brother now thinks motorcycles are really cool and he wants one too; I've been trying to talk him out of it. However, I'm not gonna break his legs to keep him off a bike. Nobody in my family (except him) is all that thrilled that I ride but they won't resort to those measures. It's very disrespectful is all. If someone did that to me I would be very upset that they thought me incapable of sound decision.

I have my reasons for breaking her bike, and I know it saved her from crashing and maybe worse, I have no doubt about it.

As for my son that's a whole other thing lol. He gets told once it's hot, after that it's up to him. But a hot even is nothing like motorcycle. I'm afraid of getting him on dirt just b.c it will probably lead to street.

If you're not trolling, people like you are disgusting... and exactly why this country is soo fucked up right now...

"I'm only doing this because I know what's best for YOU..."

It's perfectly OK for HER to lose a loved brother, but you don't want to lose your precious sister?...

Disgustingly selfish.

^Fixed

Have you ever thought that you might be one of the main inspirations behind their desire to ride?

Don't fool yourself, if your advice isn't good enough for you to follow, no one else is going to follow it either.

Weak. How many of those RIP threads did YOU start? This one HERE I wrote... I was on my way to meet up with him and came across his fatality. He died on the day we were getting together to talk about creating a life together. I came across his fatality. I stood over his dead body. And I would NEVER stoop to the level of destroying someone's bike to keep them from riding.

Ohhhh.... I see now. Your sister is retarded, completely unable to think for herself, obviously not capable of making reasoned decisions... dumb as a box of rocks, good thing she has her brother there to dictate what she can and can't do, and make her decisions for her.
I hope you sufficiently dowered her with the proper amount of goats and dry goods since the father of her children came out on the short of that stick, having to take care of a dolt and all.

You realize that when you say YOU made the decision for your sister, you're saying she's too stupid to think for herself, right? And it also shows you have NO respect for her as an individual capable of making her own decisions. :|

I'm not saying I'm not a hypocrite, b/c I am.

I am wondering if I'm the only one who has tried to talk someone else out of riding.

Talking someone out of riding is a lot different from actually sabotaging someone else's property.
More people die in car crashes... maybe you should destroy her car, too.

I'm so glad I have a brother like mine... who respects me enough to trust my judgment, even if he worries I might get hurt.

And no- I'm not going to try to talk someone out of riding. I'll do my best to steer them towards a good starter bike, and do everything I can to get them to buy gear (even to the point of giving gear to them!), and make sure they really understand what the possible consequences are of fucking up... and how sometimes bad things happen even when they do nothing wrong.
But ultimately, it's THEIR decision. Why would I deprive someone of something that brings such joy into the lives of everyone I know who rides?

Ill be honest, you sound like a terrible brother, and you are going to make terrible father

I try to talk almost everyone who asks me, out of riding, save for the select few that I believe are suited for it. IMO, the typical person is not. I would never try to tell anyone what they should do, but if they ask for my opinion on whether they should ride a motorcycle or not, I will give it and more often than not it will be no. For most people, I believe the risks do not outweigh the reward, not only because the inherent risk in this activity is high, but because I believe it will be even higher in their case due to their aptitude/level of skill. Once in a while I run across someone that I think would make a good motorcyclist, but more often than not, the person that's asking me is someone that's ill suited to it, is interested for the wrong reasons and hasn't done even a bit of research into what it entails to allow them to make an intelligent decision.

I simply choose not to be involved in assisting someone in putting themselves at what I believe is undue risk. I wouldn't actively work against it like you seem to have, but I wouldn't recommend motorcycling.

I rode dirtbikes with my son a bit and it became obvious to me that, while a good athlete and thinker, he really doesn't have the makeup for it. Maybe it'll change as he matures, maybe not.

I'm only 21, but shit, I looked at those itty-bitty dirtbikes at a dealership and was like, "All of my children are going to be on these one day".

All this talk about "rights" and shit in politics these days, you'd think people would be allowed to make their own goddamn vehicle of choice decisions. No one should be kept from the ability to feel what it's like to ride. They get to decide whether or not to do it.

My mother told me I wasn't allowed to ride a motorcycle. So I moved 3000 miles away and within 6 months owned a fucking motorcycle. But I heeded what my uncles and grandfather (all bikers) told me: Full face helmet and take the safety course. Twice preferably and wear all your gear.

And I did.

The absolute only reason I would try to keep people from riding would be if I thought they couldn't grasp it well or fast enough and would be a danger to themselves. Some people are just prone to hurt and difficulty. But in the very end, it's up to them if they want to give it a go.

i try to convince everyone they should at least take the MSF course to see if they enjoy it :teeth

I've had lots of people ask me to teach how to ride and I basically just try and talk them out of it

Just tell them the truth; statistically people who are taught to ride by a friend tend to get into more accidents than people who are self taught, and those people get into more than accidents than those who take the MSF.

I'm sorry you had this happen, I never wish this for anyone.
But don't start comparing "body counts" with me. I don't need to have my brothers name on this forum just so strangers can tell them RIP.
