Who cares?
I don't listen to the radio much anymore except for
KPIG andI
KBCZ while driving around locally in my wife's Bimmer. I think FM radio hit its zenith in the late seventies/early eighties with KOME, KSJO and KSAN. (although I listened to KITS in the late '80s) At home and at work, I stream music on Pandora, Spotify, and Amazon Music. I especially like Pandora since they play a lot of stuff you don't hear on the radio. (Incidentally, Pandora doesn't work in Europe.) I also watch the shorts on YouTube where they play all the one-hit wonders from various years. I'm glad I don't have to listen to any DJ's bullshit and the ads aren't too obnoxious either.
Lamont and Tonelli's radio show sucked in my opinion. Their humor was so juvenile and predictable. Lamont couldn't even shed his Canadian accent. Plus they played the same songs over and over. They couldn't hold a candle to
Perry Stone. That guy made me cringe, but at least he came up with some incredibly irreverent humor.
Is there only one radio station left in the Bay Area that still plays album oriented rock and roll music? I think KUFX is country now. It would be so cool if there was a decent reggae station to listen to.
My favorite FM DJ was
Gene Mitchell when he was at KOME. He ended up in LA and died a couple of years ago. I thought he was pretty cool. We messaged each other a few times a few years ago. He said he treated his voice as if it were an instrument.
KFOG was pretty good while it lasted. I remember when they changed their format from elevator music to rock and roll in 1982.
