107.7 Lamont booted off air

Laid off after 24 years, Bay Area radio host writes scathing farewell message
Lamont Hollywood has left 107.7 The Bone

Well, the vanillafication of culture continues

Change doesn’t ask permission it just shows up, flips the table, and reminds us that nothing stays still forever….

Simple…..

Wish them well. Had some good times with those guys.
No smart phones to take endless pics with in those days. :(

Is a severance package the gauze they wrap your arse in after firing it?

If Cumulus can fire Greg Papa, anyone is game to receive the boot.

Budman, thanks for your efforts in bringing the plight of lane-sharing motorcyclists to the air waves with those two.

I always liked Paul Tonelli. Lamont always annoyed me.

Who cares?

I don't listen to the radio much anymore except for KPIG andI KBCZ while driving around locally in my wife's Bimmer. I think FM radio hit its zenith in the late seventies/early eighties with KOME, KSJO and KSAN. (although I listened to KITS in the late '80s) At home and at work, I stream music on Pandora, Spotify, and Amazon Music. I especially like Pandora since they play a lot of stuff you don't hear on the radio. (Incidentally, Pandora doesn't work in Europe.) I also watch the shorts on YouTube where they play all the one-hit wonders from various years. I'm glad I don't have to listen to any DJ's bullshit and the ads aren't too obnoxious either.

Lamont and Tonelli's radio show sucked in my opinion. Their humor was so juvenile and predictable. Lamont couldn't even shed his Canadian accent. Plus they played the same songs over and over. They couldn't hold a candle to Perry Stone. That guy made me cringe, but at least he came up with some incredibly irreverent humor.

Is there only one radio station left in the Bay Area that still plays album oriented rock and roll music? I think KUFX is country now. It would be so cool if there was a decent reggae station to listen to.

My favorite FM DJ was Gene Mitchell when he was at KOME. He ended up in LA and died a couple of years ago. I thought he was pretty cool. We messaged each other a few times a few years ago. He said he treated his voice as if it were an instrument.

KFOG was pretty good while it lasted. I remember when they changed their format from elevator music to rock and roll in 1982.

Guess they should be grateful to have a last day on the air. More than one crew of a radio station has suddenly up and vanished as their long standing format gets kicked off and the radio starts playing mariachi (or whatever) at 6am.

I, too, have not listened to terrestrial radio in several years. But I was certainly attached to my regular DJs back in the day. Most of them today are not only off the air, they've simply passed on.

Today I listen to XM, and pretty much almost exclusively baseball.

The only other radio I listen to is https://morow.com, streaming progressive rock out of France.

I am a passenger riding up I5 listening to FM radio. Public radio. The story is about Neil Young with lots of his music. It is awesome.

Crap. I tried to send the BARF two finger salute but it didn’t work. How do I do that?

Many don’t know that Lamont has also been the PA announcer at 49ers games. However that preseason game last week, I don’t think I heard him. Hope he didn’t lose that gig too.
