1983 CX650 Eurosport restoration thread.

CX650 Eurosports are more rare in the U.S. than CX650 Turbos.
CX500 Eurosports are even more rare than that.
Yours is only the third that I've heard of in the last 15 years.
The chance of finding a titled 500 Eurosport frame here would be like finding a particular needle in a case of needles.
 
Ah, I didn't realize - coming from Europe, my assumption is always that the 500s (E, C, regular) are more common than the 650s (or turbos). Good to know, might have to find a GL frame and see if I could make it fit, still assuming I can't convince the DMV.
 
Look at the PDF that I linked.
Motorcycles 25+ years or older are federally exempt. Bring that PDF to the DMV.
Get the lights checked by CHP.
There is not going to be a problem getting the bike registered, it's going to boil down to cost. When it was imported, versus when you decided to get it registered. Large gaps in time = more money.
 
Some may be wondering about the lack of updates lately.
Larry has been doing some personal projects, namely working in his old truck's interior. The after market parts needed a lot of work to make fit.

He's still waiting on a couple of backordered parts, but it won't be too long before the bike starts up again.

NOS front turn signals came in (turns out that '79-82 CB750F super sport used the same ones), as well as an NLA clip found on CMSNL.

Really curious about repairs to plastic bits and bobs. Mebee display some techniques and results? Has chemistry majik advanced to the point of home DIY's can have hope of success?

I sure would like to redo past disasters. (sigh)
 
Very cool thread and thanks for sharing. Quick question... I inherited a washer-dryer set with the recent purchase of a house, and the fronts were all plastic. Due to the age of the units, I found that the plastic had become brittle and was easily cracked. I ended up having to replace it all. The units were nowhere near the age of your moto. Although very likely a different type of plastic, do you find that the older plastic is compromised in any way that prevents restoration?
 
There are certain plastics plasti-fix doesn't work on. When Larry tried working on the handle bar turn signal housing, the repair didn't take.
I think that repairs are more about the type of plastic versus age. Either the bond works, or it doesn't.
 
I love that stuff. Jasco works great until you get it on your skin or some plastic. I recently bought some paint stripper that's orange based. I have yet to use it,

A bit off the subject, but have you ever seen guys remove Bondo on TV? They usually grind it off which makes a big mess. A propane torch works great and makes it peel right off.
