2011 Spring Rally -- BARF does Quincy!

Oh my, I've been spending too much time on my F650 forum and have stumbled on this a bit late... the mind's wheels are spinning - this sounds like a VERY fun gig, awfully nice country up that way... If there are any dual-sporters who might peel off for a little fire road side-show, please let me know!

I am thinking about bring the ktm 990 and I might be interested in that if im not 2up. Do you have an adventure route in mind ?

No route in mind at the moment as i've never been off road in the area, i have no idea how well BLM or others keep the fire roads clear of downed trees at that elevation at this point of the season. Not especially down for doing too much hatchet work!

A customer renting for 10 days wants to see California and meet AWESOME motorcycle people.
I routed him up the coast, onto 36, and to Quincy. Rowan will be joining us on Friday, so please welcome the Ausie dude, on the 1200 Sporty with the Dubbelju stickers.
He will try to sign up online but may not have internetz.
I'll be head'in up 101 early Friday morning, to meet up with some othet BARFers in Fotuna, and over 36 to Red Bluff, Oroville, 162 to Quincy if he wants ta tag along? And if he has a purdie mouth? :toothless

That's my sub-rank of Hooligan.
You guys and gals all have a great ride.
I will miss you, but you all can tip one back for the Black Alley Gang at dinner, and we will do the same for you on Saturday night.
Take lots of pics,
Lonny

Next time brother. :ride

does anyone know if these routes are open, or if the roads are going to be a problem? was thinking of it as a possible route up.
1) hwy 49 off of the iH80 going north, then
2) Gold Lake Hwy (co rt S620), and then
3)70/89 north to Quincy from gold lake hwy?

wondering if that part of 89 is going to be a problem.

CalTrans website says 49 is open over Yuba Pass. I'm inquiring about Gold Lakes Hwy.

*edit* Local source says Gold Lakes has not been plowed. Likely not open.

Yeah no hatchet work is right. I talked with a friend yesterday and I think most of the fireroads will have snow. But I am checking. I was on Usal Road last week and passed a guy on a DRZ who had chainsaw in a special mount on his fender/fork I kind of laughed to myself. But later down the road I wasnt. Apparently he had cut a tree that was blocking the road. Actually several as I went along. His riding parter had wire cutters in a sheath mounted to his bike. Couldnt figure that one out.

the only maybe road would be the gold lake hwy, but otherwise the 89 is part of 2 routes that are heading up that way

FWIW, if there is a section of Hwy 49 any duller than that between Auburn and Grass Valley, I haven't ridden it. One alternative is to stay on 80 up to Colfax, then ride 174 down to GV. It's not great, but you don't hit all the stop lights out of Auburn, and the road is more interesting.

always pack rain gear. :laughing just ask Stan23, Brian and Tim. :laughing

Good advice. :thumbup Generally, you want to prepare for bad weather so that you don't have to worry about it.

From NWS:

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54.

Doesn't sound that bad actually. :cool That said, I'll likely wuss out and ride the Tiger rather than the Hyper. :laughing Just ordered a new rear tire for the Hyper too.

:confused Rick deleted some of his own posts, but I don't see anything else.
First, my bad for mixing names.

I'm leaning towards Tom's suggested long route, but Rick's shorter route could alleviate the body aches and the bitching the next day.

Stay tuned on Tom's route. There are some issues, and alternatives are being evaluated.
