2013 Pakistan Tour

the photographer should have them. i dont know much abt photography but i remember him saying he dosnt take .jpeg, he only takes raw files. supposedly they are very high res!?!

i can ask him if you want

Some of those scenery photos, and the last one with the stars, are really pretty. Was thinking it would be nice to have some as wallpaper options for my PC - but don't go out of your way just for that! You have been SO generous already and I'm just being greedy. :teeth

THE most Epic of Epic Adventures with gobs of Epicness instilled. :thumbup

THANK YOU KHAN and Travelers for sharing this.

If all goes well, im going to try to head out again end september or early october. there is this one area that i havnt explored. MiniMargh/Kargil area. im dying to check that out.. any barfer wants to tag a long is obviously most welcome.. Maybe 2014 I can take two groups. one mid May to attend the JOSHIO CHILMJUSHT Festival and then head up north and the other one July/Aug to attend the Shandur Polo Festival and then head up north. Depends how much interest there is.

Khan those are absolutely gorgeous pictures. Rod is right...some of those would make spectacular wallpaper!

I am also impressed that you did this trip on essentially street bikes and street tires. I'm guessing from the spoke rims that those are tube-type tires; did you have much trouble with flats?

At some point we have to talk about these bikes. They were essentially city bikes pressed into service as touring and sometimes off-road machines :laughing

Despite the punishment they held up well and there were no major break downs. I think it was a wise choice to go with the 125cc older model with its kick start option (used quite a few times), spoked wheels, and tubed tires that were available all over the place.

For tires, we only had puncture probs when we tried to run 2up for extended distance, otherwise they were fine and we managed to change a tube (well, the whole wheel) at one point using improvised tools. Knobbies would have helped a little but the suspension action and mainly carbs at altitude were areas where riding the Piaggio Storm made it a real adventure. Remember that locals ride the same roads on carbed 70 and 125cc city bikes, going 3up at times.

Doing some of those parts on an Enfield Bullet or anything much heavier would have been some major punishment to the body. I don't think I would want any kind of big bike for Pakistan, certainly nothing bigger than a 400, and in my most luxurious glamping fantasy, something like a CRF250L might be the ideal choice with its long travel suspension and FI:

We left Shandur and came across this spot.. Theres no road or path that leads you here.. Just a little off-road and you get to this gorgeous place. We made some very interesting videos here. Someone jumped in the water and then decided he didn't know how to swim, while some swam across. Videos coming soon!!

We had heard of a landslide between Shandur and Gilgit and didnt realize that seriousness of it untill we got there..

No more road, the water took most of it.

A few locals said they would take our bikes across for $15 each. we negotiated to $12 per bike and off they went.

Bikes made it up too.

After walking through all this i realized $15 for each bike was totally worth it and i shouldnt have negotiated. So i ended up giving them some extra monies!!

While we were waiting on the other side for our bikes, Kyle was busy giving presents that he brought from the states to all the young kids around.

First tire flat. The mechanic didnt really know what he was up to so Michael came in and helped out.

Just 10 mins later another flat. This time we had to change the rear tube as well and this mechanic knew exactly what he was doing.

we finally made it to Gilgit that day and thought of resting here for a few days at least, but..

Just to give you an idea that the road was not just flooded, it was completely gone.
