2013 Pakistan Tour

What an adventure!

I love this pic. Adjusted the exposure and saturation just a bit.

We made it out alive and are both on our way back home.

It was an incredible ride and I can't believe it is over. Thanks to Moin, his family, and all of the helpful and generous people we met in Pakistan.

I can't wait to hear do you guys need a pick up from the airport?

Kalaashi culture is unique, but at times a little creepy. Well, at least for me. In the Bamburat valley there's a graveyard where skeletons still lay above ground from unburied bodies during the Greek times. You can see all the bones.. skulls, ribs, arms and legs all left untouched. The history is not clear to me except for that small fact that a local told me. We were also taken to a really old wooden mosque and visited the trout farms. Our trip in kalaash was short due to the guys' unpleasant health situation. We rested, and left for chitral the following morning. This led to a point where I was greeted with the threat of being put behind bars. I'll elaborate on this situation in my next post. You guys 'SHARING' these updates encourages me to update more often, just say'in. ;) Pictures by Ayen Designs — Kalaash

I'm staying over in London a few days before coming home so Kyle may beat me to posting a ride report and pics.

If people are interested in hearing more about riding in PK I would be happy to share. Maybe we can schedule a get together in the coming weeks.

Perhaps a slideshow?

I bet we could get something going!

I'm in country also, when do you leave? I'll be 'round until mid August. Drop me a PM if you'd like to grab a pint.

kalaash to Chitral
Updated 41 minutes ago
When we were headed towards Kalaash from Lowari Pass, the police asked us to go to Chitral to register the foreigners first and then head back 2 hours to Kalaash. We told them it was getting dark and that we wouldn't like to ride in the dark. Much to our surprise, they didn't make an issue out of it and simply escorted us to Kalash where we stayed the next 2 days. The day we were supposed to leave for Chitral, the hotel manager told me I'd have to go see the DPO Police Chief for some reason in Chitral. I didn't pay much heed to it, thinking it's probably another security check because of the foreigners with me. We rode up to Chitral and I went straight to the police office. Michael and Kyle had to sit in the lobby area and I was escorted to the DPO's office. As soon as I walked in, the chief asks me, "Why did you break the law?" I was completely taken aback thinking to myself, "Which law?" He goes on, "My men kept telling you to go to Chitral and get the Americans registered before they enter Kalaash but you conveniently ignored them. How dare you not listen to the police who is trying to protect you." Suddenly, a guy walked in and the chief tells him to lock me up in a cell. As soon as he said that I knew there was a misunderstanding, and I had to come up with something and get us out of it. I sat on the chair in front of the chief and said, "If your men really wanted me to go to Chitral before Kalaash, they would've made me! Why didn't they force us? Why'd they let us go ahead?" And when I knew I had gotten the best of him, I confidently said, "Sir, your men allowed us to skip Chitral to save their own time, and once they took us there, they realised their mistake and then created up a whole story to make themselves look right." The DPO's attitude instantly changed. He called in Khawar, another guy from our support vehicle and told him, since he had been to the area several times, he should've known better and because of that he seowever, long story short, we got out of this mess after 20 mins and we stayed in Chitral for a night and the following morning, rode the world's best road. More later.
