Bump for the Test this weekend in Bahrain.

There will be "televised" coverage for this test, but it will be cut down to 1 hour. As was already mentioned, you will need AppleTV to watch F1 this year. The catch is that you have to "link" your AppleTV subscription ($99 per year) to the F1 app (no F1 stuff on just the AppleTV app (see edit below)). Apparently, there is no extra charge for the F1 coverage you just have to go through the steps to link your AppleTV account. The good news is once you link the account then you will have access to everything the F1 app (which used to cost about $130 per year) has to offer.

EDIT:
Just did some more digging and it turns out (at least it appears) that you do not have to link AppleTV to F1TV to watch the practice sessions, qualifying and the races. AppleTV will have a dedicated area on race weekends to watch (do not need to watch live). However, F1TV Premium is available for free to AppleTV subscribers which gives you access to all F1TV content (in car cameras, multi-screen, etc and everything else that is on F1TV Premium).

First test day is done. McLaren (Lando) was fastest with a 1:34.669 which is about a half a second faster then the fastest race lap in 2025 but about 4.8 sec slower than last year's pole of 1:29.841 (qualifying) by Piastri.

From what I have heard F1TV will not be available to purchase as a stand alone here in the US. You (as I stated above) would have to get Apple TV (which is cheaper than F1TV by about $30 for the year) and link your Apple TV account to F1TV Premium (which is free to Apple TV subscribers). It appears that you do not have to link to F1TV to watch practice, qualifying and the race.
 
Damn. Aston Martin apparently 4+ seconds off the pace because the Honda engine is a turd.

And you get all the AppleTV content too. It really is a win-win for us. Just pay for the annual sub, not the $12.99 monthly sub.

My F1TV sub hasn’t expired yet. My F1TV app still works w no changes.
 
Alonso is saying the new cars are ez to drive because they are so slow in the corners, favoring the straights. Literally said their chef could drive it. 😅

I’m sure ppl would care more if the Aston wasn’t so slow.
 
Verstappen is not a fan of the cars.

I hope that not bode ill for the racing itself.


Four-times Formula One world champion Max Verstappen declared his new Red Bull not much fun to drive and more like "Formula E on steroids" on the second day of pre-season testing in Bahrain on Thursday.

The Dutchman put in an impressive number of laps and was also second on the timesheets on Wednesday but sounded far from content about what he was driving when he spoke to reporters at Sakhir.

FE is good fun to watch. So I don’t have a problem with this.

Also, the cars will change dramatically over the next couple of years. Teams will get better at managing the battery, the new tires, the new fuels, and everything. The racing we get in Rd1 will not stick around. Who knows which way will be best.
 
What are your thoughts on this years liveries?

Duracell branding on the Williams will always be brilliant.
HAAS looks really good. Alpine and Racing Bulls is meh. Ferrari has that mid-70's/Ferrari 312 vibe going. Kind of like Cadillac's look. Audi...well...seems odd. Red Bull going with gloss paint this year is a good call.

The freedom to develop the straight line mode mechanisms is great. I’m surprised only Alpine went with bottom hinge.

I like that gloss paint is back. I also like the new reg requiring more paint - too much bare carbon gets old.

They probably should've visited a Honda dealer previous to settling on the engine manufacturer...
 
Apparently, the FIA is looking at the rules for the start. These new cars do not have the MGU-H that would "assist" on the starts (by spooling up the turbo). So, according to some, the cars will need to rev the engine for about 10 seconds to get the turbo spun up. This presents a problem for the cars in the back (not having enough time to spool up the turbo) which would create a very dangerous problem.
 
Generally, the start procedure kicks off when the final car is stationary. So the last few cars may not have enough time to spool the turbo before the lights go out. Some are saying the cars need 5-20 seconds to spool up.
The time diff is what can be dangerous. If the car in P15 needs 20sec and doesn’t get it, he may be more likely to get hit.

Also, not allowing the cars in the back to have enough time is another disadvantage that could spread the field. Another disadvantage and “more spread out” is dumb. F1 is already way too impacted by Quali.
